I am wondering where Guri Knudsdaughter ended up in the USA. She was born in the parish of Vang in Valdres on April 18, 1849, and she left Norway on April 3, 1866, The first emigration-records here in Norway start in 1867, so I can't find the emigrant-protocols. So I would be very happy if I could get some help in finding her and possible descendants.

Knud Engelbregtson Torstad (25) travelled with what looks like his wife Marit Christophersdtr. Torstad (28) and daughter Ingeborg Knudsdtr. Torstad (2).

An unmarried woman emigrating alone can be hard to find. But maybe she settled near other Torstad's?
US-census 1880 shows Torstad familes in Hawk Creek, Renville, Minnesota and Warsaw, Goodhue, Minnesota.

Yes, it's the correct Guri Knudsdaugher Torstad that you have found for me. I quite agree that it was not easy for a 17-year-old girl to leave Norway completely on her own, so she must most certainly have travelled with others from the same place/county. She may, as you suggest, Jan Peter, settled near other Torstads. So, to all of you: thank you so far for what you have found for me.

Guri Knudsdr
Born: 18 Apr 1849
Christening: 17 May 1849, Vang, Oppland, Norway
Parents: Knud Knudsen & Marith Gulbrandsdr

US-census 1900 shows 3 women named Guri born 1848-1850, and immigration 1864-1868, but none of them are a good candidate:

Guri Arness
Birth: Sep 1849, Norway
Residence: ED 67 Dovre Township, Kandiyohi, Minnesota, United States
Spouse: Knut O Arness
Children: Anna Arness, Ole B Arness, Martin O Arness, Louis M Arness, Julia Arness, Martha Arness, Lawrence Arness, Clara Arness, Ella Arness

Guri Charlsen
Birth: Sep 1850, Norway
Residence: ED 119 Lafayette Township Story City town, Story, Iowa, United States
Spouse: Jacob Charlsen
Children: John Charlsen, Ingebrit Charlsen, Lena Charlsen

Guri Johnson [Guri Neprud]
Birth: Feb 1848, Norway
Residence: ED 135 Shely Township, Norman, Minnesota, United States
Spouse: Nils Johnson
Children: John N Johnson, Nordal N Johnson, Tenny N Johnson, Elai Johnson, Clara Johnson, Edwin Johnson

Gurie Cherestina Neprude, "Minnesota, Deaths and Burials, 1835-1990"
Death Date: 09 Jul 1920
Death Place: Shelly, Norman, Minnesota
Age: 72
Birth Date: 1848
Father's Name: Tunnes Hansen Hetland
Mother's Name: Inger Redland

A few more hits if you extend the search to born 1847-1851, but still noone born in April...

Julia is often an Americanization of Guri, isn't it?

Maybe this family needs to be checked...?

Census-1880 for Manitowoc, Manitowoc, Wisconsin:
Ole Hanson (35), Norway, sailor
Julie Hanson (31), Norway
Martin Hanson (13), Wisconsin
Lina Hanson (10), Wisconsin

Hans Martin Hanson (1866-1913)
If he is born in 1866, it seems a bit early, taken into consideration that Guri arrived in June 1866...

Gosh, so many Guri's! The point is, however, that her father was a Knut Knutson, and she was born in April 1849. Julia/-e is absolutely a possibility for a "new" name for her. Jan Peter has suggested that she probably went to join other Torstads in the US - that is an absolute probability - and that these have settled in Minnesota.

Guri is listed just below the previously mentioned Torstad family in the Migration records from Vang parish.
It would be great to locate them in the US. Here they are in Census-1865
Knut is listed as living at "Nygaard" in the parish record and census-1865, and "Torstad" in the passenger list.

Knud Engebrethsen Nygaard/Torstad, born ab. 1840

I was just looking at her.. In 1880, it seems she is named Joron Wiik?
Interesting that they have a son named Knudt.
