I believe the above person was born 16 Sep 1875 in Aust-Agder, Sondeled Parish Norway to Thor Alvsen Lovdahl and Anne Andrea Torjusdatter. Not sure if I have spelled Ingvald's name correctly. I think he came to America in 1881 but I can't find the record for him doing so. Perhaps I have not been looking in the correct place. He moved to to Wisconsin and lived in Milwaukee. Below is the record I found for his birth.

Source information: Aust-Agder county, Søndeled, Parish register (official) nr. A 3 (1861-1879), Birth and baptism records 1875, page 129.

I would appreciate anything that anyone could tell me about how to find the record of him coming to America.

Which ports of possible departure did you check the records for?

I went to the same place where I found the birth and looked for emigration/immigration records for 1881. I don't know how to tell what port they may have left from.

Just found a census report from Wisconsin that says he came to America in 1884. I will go back to the website and take another look using the new year.

One of the closest port of departure to Søndeled general area would have been Kristiansand in Vest-Agder.

Looks like the entire family left in 1884 --

Naturally to find the family arriving in America you'd have to look for records in the American port of arrival.

Thank you very much for the help. I will keep trying to find the information on my own but it is so nice to know that there is a place to go to when all else fails.

Do that, it is always exiting to look the records on your own.

Some of the records from Søndeled can be a bit challenging.

Good luck.
