I am looking for the ship on which my grandfather sailed across the Atlantic. He left Christiania 10-11-1872 on the Hero. It says the line was Blichfeldt & Co. and the Bet opplys was Betalt i America. Does this give some clue to which ship he boarded in England? Thank you. |

I would guess he left 11-10-1872, meaning 11 Oct in Norwegian date format? Its possible you chould find your grandfather on the S/S Atlantic, arriving New York on October 29th.
Btw; your query is not related to this topic? Some of your family left Oslo on 11 Oct 1872, arriving New York on the SS Minnesota on 29 OCT 1872.

Jan, Thank you so much for referring me back to my former post answers about the SS Minnesota. I don't know how I missed that. I am working on a presentation about "Grandparents coming across the Atlantic" for our family reunion. You really are a great researcher! I appreciate the information so very much. Mary Ellen |

Jan, could you tell me where I would find the passenger lists for the corresponding ships of the Hero 2 that left Christiania 9 June 1871 with my great-grandfather, Andreas Andersen Furulund from Eidsvold, going to Trempealeau, Wisconsin? |

A little confusing to follow this for us mere readers so here's a summary - and hope you don't mind me jumping in with this. Any mistakes I'm making as I try to understand can now be seen (and corrected).
TRIP 1 Person: Great-grandfather Andreas Andersen Furulund b. 7 Oct 1835 (on death certificate) in Eidsvold, Norway... Surname Berger in America Port of departure: Oslo/CHRISTIANIA Date of departure: 9 June 1871 Ship: Hero 2 of the Wilson Shipping Line Destination: Hull, England took train to Liverpool, England? Date of departure from Liverpool: ? Ship: Still looking for name of the transatlantic vessel ? Port of arrival in North America: ? Date of Arrival in North America: ?
TRIP 2 Persons: His wife and family Port of departure: Oslo/Christiania ? Date of departure: 11 Oct 1872 Ship: S/S Oder of the Wilson Shipping Line Destination Hull, England took train to Liverpool Date of departure from Liverpool: ? Ship: S/S Minnesota of the Guion shipping line Port of arrival: New York, New York, USA (Castle Garden?) Date of arrival: 29 OCT 1872 [should it be 28 OCT 1872?]
THE FAMILY MAKING THE TRIP: Marie Christoffers. age 40 Ole Kristian Andreass. age 19 Anton Andreaass. age 16 born 12 Jun 1856 - GRANDFATHER Christen Andreass. age 11 Johannes Andreass. age 7 Maren Andreass. age 6 Ingvald Andreass. age 2
"It says the line was Blichfeldt & Co." Not sure if it was clear, but I believe that Agent DHrr. Blichfeldt & Co. of Christiania was a shipping agent, not a shipping line. Blichfeldt & Co. sold tickets etc. In 1872, Blichfeldt & Co. represented the Guion shipping line (as explained above).
"says Betalt i America." I think this means that the tickets for the family departing 11 October 1872 were paid for in America. This make sense as Andreas was already in America and paid for passage for his wife and children. |

That's it. Looks right to me. They came to Trempealeau Co., Wisconsin. Settled in Jackson County, WI.
