I am looking to find out what happened to Henrika Hansdtr after her 3rd illegitimate son was born in 1849 at Hagstad. His birth and christening are entered in the Hitteren Church records, Hitra.

Henrika Hansdtr was born June 6, 1812 at Holmen "now Asmudvag". She was the daughter of Hans Larsen of Holmen "now Asmudvag" and Anna Johnsdtr of the same place.

I went through all of Hitteren church records on LDS Film and could find nothing further on Henrika Hansdtr, nothing on her parents, nothing on her 3 illegitimate sons (1840 Eilev, son of Arnt Pedersen, a tailor from Melhus. I did find Eilev's vaccination in 1843, but that is my last record for Eilev.

The second son was born in 1846. He was Hans the son of Anders Rossing a baker from Hagstad. Did not find anything further.

The 3rd son Adolf (my great grandfather) was the son of Matthys Albrektsen, a laborer from Stordalen, Nord Trondelag. I found nothing further for Adolf in Hitteren records. My next record is 1878 when he married at Hopen, Smola, More og Romsdal. By 1878, Adolf was 29 years old and a laborer at Dyrnes on Smola.

The Hitteren Church records were very difficult for me to read so I could have missed something. I looked for a marriage for Henrika after 1849. I looked for her death after 1849 and could not find her. Any help would be appreciated.

When Henrika had Eilev in 1840 she was living at Grønvig - today Grønvika.

I find one Hendrike Hansd. (52) (ie born ab. 1814) married to fisherman Erik Lorentsen (39) on farm Nordhammern in 1865.

Could this be him?
#27 Erik Lorentsen
Death: 02 Mar 1866
Burial: 22 Apr 1866, Hitra, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway
Residence: Hammeren
Age: 35
Source: Sør-Trøndelag county, Dolm in Hitra, Parish register (official) nr. 634A07 (1861-1870), Death and burial records 1866, page 27.

Age doesnt fit, although the death is only 3 months after the 1865-census, which was performed in January 1866.
Hammeren could be Nordhammeren.

This must be your Henrikka Hansdatter in census-1875.
Widow, visitor, spinner, born 1814 in Dolms parish, Hitra
She is a resident @ Churchsinger and Teacher Eilert Arntsen Snækvig (b. 1840), which must be her son Eilev.

Eilert (Eilev) in census-1865.
Same page, next household shows one Christoffer Arntsen, born about 1825 in Frosta, Nord Trøndelag. A wild guess, but possibly a brother to Eilev?

Eilert in census-1900 for Orkdal, Sør Trøndelag

Census-1910 list Eilert Snekvik as born 23 Jan 1840 in Hitra.

Jan,
Is Eilert another name for Eilev? If so, I think you have found mother and son on the 1875 census.
What does "Tilreisende" mean?

Tilreisende means visitor.
I think his name has been Eilert all the time, and that bad transcription of old records might have caused his name to be Eilev.

The Royal Norwegian Castle, Oslo, July 1st, 1923:
Snækvig, Eilert Arntsen
Nor: Lærer og kirkesanger Eilert Arntsen Snækvig, er tildelt Kongens Fortjenstmedalje
Eng: Teacher and churchsinger Eilert Arntsen Snækvig is given the Kings "earnings" medal.

(The medal pictures the current king, King Harald V. The King in 1923 was king Haakon VII.)
The Kings medal was established by King Haakon VII in 1908, and is given to people who have deserved it for art, science and business, and for outstanding work in the public service.

Eilert was given this medal at the age of 83, after a long life as a school-teacher and churchsinger in the local community.

This is amazing. I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for your help. Years ago, because I could not read Hitra church records on film, I gave up thinking that "Eilev" had died after his vaccination in 1846. I had no idea that his mother had married and was still living, a widow, in 1875. I am absolutely thrilled with this information.
