What is the word coming after Olsen? That seems to be the same word that shows up in several places on the marriage record, but I am having trouble deciphering it. |

JKMarler, is there something in particular that would make you think this, or do you just think it's an option worth exploring?

Martha's father's name is Ole Johanneson. Many times when Norwegians in America are asked their father's name, their last name is assumed to be the same as their father because of our custom of inheriting our surname from our father. That is just one of many different naming paths that have happened to Americans of Norwegian descent. |

Date is the 4th, 11th, 18th of December the 12th month. Banns are read 3 times to the congregation before a marriage.
Martha's father's farm is Venåsvold, one of the bondsmen or groomsmen is from Venås from. This farm name is the likely source for her maiden name of Wenos given in the census in 1925.
Verdalen is not in Kleppe. It is a parish in fylke Nord Trøndelag.
The date of their marriage is 29 Dec not 12 Dec |

Are the names in the first column on the second page godparents? |

Likely the family in the 1865 census on one of the Buranvold farms:

No Betsy but the 2 known daugthers could be searched to see if they have the right birthday or leaving information to make them more viable as possible Betsy.
John Bendik Johnson age 16 in 1865: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=10&filnamn=f61720&gardpostnr=397&personpostnr=2196&merk=2196#ovre
Does this suggest that John Olsen was dead at this time, and Johan Bendik was out on his own although his older brother, Ole, was still at home? Betsy, if born in 1850, would be 15 in 1865--a little older than two 2 daughters listed. |

Yes. 1865 census see column 7 "Sivilstand" - Randi Jakobsd. is noted as "e." This means enke = widow. Randi's occupation is given as "Husmandsenke med jord" so again you see her designated as enke, widow of a husmand med jord (a type of farmer, with land?). Her son Ole is single, and his occupation is "hjælper Moderen" (helping his mother). So yes John has died and they are working the farm.
1865 census Johan Bendik Jons. has no family relationship in that family (at least none is noted) and his occupation is Tjenestegut - hired worker of some kind. This would be very common among Scandinavian immigrants in America at this time also - that a teenager (boy or girl) in a farm family would "work out" at another family's farm to bring in family income.
