I'm trying to find out on which ship a relative of mine and his family travelled to America and what their port of departure/arrival was.

I know that they left Trondheim on April 4, 1906 on S/S Spero
(Wilson Line) and that the ticket was sold by the White Star Line.

Then you should most likely be able to find them in the Ellis Island database! Did you try searching for them there?
