Such a dramatic journey story might have been included in a biography. A Knut Orvik who died in 1917 has a biography published about him in the 1985 2 volume Nelson County (N.D.) history. Likely this is he & his naturalization record:
Orvik Knud Norway 1st March 26, 1887 Nelson D-1 162 Orvik Knud Norway 2nd October 27, 1894 Nelson D-9 113

Thank`s for the effort so far all of you. Seems that this issue is not so easy to solve.
As far as I know they where connecting from SS Tasso (Wilson Line) with an Allan Line vessel, most likely it was supposed to be the SS Parisian ??

But as the SS Tasso grounded and the passengers as per information I have was transported by the SS Domino from Bergen to Hull, this most likely could have changed accordingly to available space on different vessels

I checked the Nelson county history stories of Knut, N.M. and Nels E Orvik and no one reported the name of the ship they travelled on.
I also checked the WPA Pioneer Biography index for any Orvik story but there was none. |

Seems to be a very difficult family to find in the emigration records,. When I have difficulty finding a passenger or even a family , I try to find another passenger near the person I am trying to find so I can maybe find the ship they left England on. However in this case I tried at least 8 other people on either side of your family but had no luck finding any of these any of the other eight that left Norway at the same time.
I used Norway migration record posted by Jackie and the posted Norwegian list found on Ancestry.com.

I could not find the arrival if Nils Orvik but I did find this record in which he indicates that he arrived March 1886 at Port Huron, Michigan. Unfortunately no ship mentioned.

If the Nils Orvik arrived in Port Huron in March 1886 and the Knut Orvik family arrived in Hull on March 20 1886, I would think the most likely ship arrival in Canada would be around the end of March or early April. . The Norway Heritage data base has the Sarnia arriving March 30 and the Parisian arriving April 4.
The Ancestry, com site has only transcribed about 180 passngers for the Sarnia. That is about six pages of ships manifests.
There is a good likelyhood that some pages of ships manifests are missing for this ships arrival March 29, 1886. Ancestry has arrival on March 29, Norway Heritage has a date of March 30, 1886.
S/S Sarnia, Dominion Line
"norwayheritage.com http://www.norwayheritage.com › p_ship how many passengers did the S/S Sarnia, Dominion Line carry from www.norwayheritage.com 900 passengers arrived at Quebec 04:00 morning ... We permit the use of the material for non-profit purposes like personal web pages, family history books etc., ... Missing: carry #8206;| Show results with: carry"

Your comment on the passenger vessel caused me to compare the data avaliable on the Sarnia and the Parisian. Ancestry.com has 27 pages of 50 passengers each for arrival of the Parisian on April 4, 1886.
Ancestry.com has four pages of 50 passengers each arriving 29 March 1886. If the ship carried anywhere near the 900 passengers listed above for its capacity we are missing data for some 700 passengers. |

There is a data base for crossing the border from Canada at Port Huron bot it does not begin until 1895.
"All U.S., Border Crossings from Canada to U.S., 1895-1960 results"
