I am trying to find the connection between my husband's mother and Edvard GRIEG, the Norwegian composer. Johanne Margaretha HAGERUP b. 1778 was m. to Paul KNUDSEN in 1811 in Jelso, Rogaland, NORWAY. She is supposed to be the d/o Eiler Eilerson HAGERUP b. 1718 who was a minister in Christiansand and m. to Edvardine Magdalena CHRISTIE. The family was always told that Johanne Margaretha HAGERUP was the sister of Gesine HAGERUP, the mother of Edvard GRIEG. However, that can't be possible since Johanne was b. 1778 and Gesine b. 1814, long after Eiler HAGERUP had died. According to other researchers, Gesine was the d/o Edvard HAGERUP b. 1770. My question is could this Edvard HAGERUP be a brother of Johanne Margaretha HAGERUP both the children of Eiler? I know that Gesine m. Alexander GRIEG in 1836 and were the parents of Edvard GRIEG. My mother-in-law was named Edvarda Julia Hagerup LARSON and was supposedly a cousin of Edvard Hagerup GRIEG as well as his wife, Nina HAGERUP, Edvard's 1st cousin. That much as been proven by many sources. Now, I also need to figure out who the f/o of Nina HAGERUP was? He should be a brother of Gesine, the mother of Edvard. Anyone with connections to this family please contact me privately if you prefer and I will share what I have with you in hopes of getting this straightened out. Thanks for your time and help.
