I am having a difficult time tracing the parents of Johannes Jonsen(1782-1835). He also used Johnsen and Joensen. I believe this is Johannes' marriage record to Mari Nilsdatter Grynmyr(1782-1845). http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9344&uid=ny&idx_side=-265
The parents are not listed in the record. I have found all Johannes and Mari's children. I have confirmed both of their deaths in parish records. Although I have not officially confirmed Johannes' birth in the records. I just cannot connect the dots back to Johannes's parents. I have poured over parish records over and over with no luck. This is the first I have seen the use of Gamme after Johannes' name. Anyone have any hints on what to do next? would appreciate any input at all. Thank You!

The location in Norway you have not directly mentioned is Gran, Oppland, Norway.

Is this your Johannes in the 1801 census working on the farm Gamme there? (record #715) Gamme would only indicate his place of residence.

There is no bygdebok for Gran so your search is pretty well limited to parish records, probate records and any available censuses.

What years in the Gran church records did you already search? I know many of the Gran records of that time period are not easy to read... I have an ancestral line from there too. What other nearby parish records have you checked or considered checking?

What were the names given to his children? especially the first two of each sex...

Do any of those names possibly closely compare with the parents of this boy 1782 in Gran?

Thank you for the replies! Hopkins you have assisted me before! The records you have posted I have looked at. Yes I have found the older the parish records the harder for me to transcribe. Yes they were from Gran. Would I not be looking for Johannes' father to be John/Jon or Joen? Here is what I have: Both Johannes and Mari died at their son John's home at Uggen. Their children: Elina(1805) Siri(1808) Torsten (Gjefsen1811), Goro & Nils(1814) John Molstad(1817-1903) Christian(1820) and possibly Marthe(1830), but that seems like a late baby? Mari's parents may have been Nils Iversen and Siri or Sigri Torstensdatter(1753). Some of my information could be wrong as I feel some of this is a guessing game with process of elimination or gut feeling :0) Appreciate the assistance!!

Mary Jane -- the birth record that I linked above shows a "Johanes" son to a man named "Jon", 1782 in Gran. Study that again. I didn't go through the year before or even finish going through 1782-1783. I did want to point out at least that one obvious possibility quickly.

By the way I read that child's parents as "Jon Xtophersen" (Kristophersen/Christophersen) and "Eli Gulbrandsdatter" and they can be found as a couple with some children still living at home in the 1801 census.

Jon Kristophersen and Eli Gulbrandsdatter were a couple I had considered to be his parents. I see Johannes was working on Mari's Nilsdatter's parents land in 1801. If I am reading the record right. I appreciate the assistance. that seemed so easy! I think with so many Johanes' I was not quite sure on which way to go. Thank you so much! Now I can move forward hopefully.

When they were married they both were servants at Gamme.
#695 and #715 - Johannes was 19 years old (b. 1782) while Mari was 18 years old (b. 1783).

Only 1 Johannes Joensen found in 1782, which also is true for Mari Nielsdatter in 1783. (She was born at Kiexhus).

- actually he is a servant for Powel Iversen, a brother of Ole Iversen for whom Mari Nilsdatter is a servant.
Nils Iversen (Maris father) is most likely another brother.
