Are there any experts on Sel? I have a grandmother, Berte Justdatter (Killi in Dovre) who was supposedly the daughter of Just Mogensson Berg from Olstad in Sel. According to various Geni trees he was the son of Magnus Berg and Berte Justdatter b. 1650 (that must be an error as my grandmother Berte Killi was born about 1650) There is an indication Just was born in Denmark and died March 23, 1678. (no sources)

Just had a sister Elisabeth married to Elias Nilsson Lunde and mother to Magnus Berg ( a sculptor of some note who suffered from familial tremor). Just married someone named Gierchen and had three daughters, Kari (Breden), Jannichen (Dale) and Berte (Killi).

According to Ivar Teigum's writings about "Embetsfolk og Allmuge i Vaga 1680-1720" (pages 12-13) Just was a lieutenant who was active in operating the copper plant at Selsverket, remained in the community after the plant closed and was Sjiktmerister in the village later. I find him on Olstad in the 1663 Manntall from Waage in Oppland.

Can anyone provide more information about Just's origins and how he came to Sel? Berte has been a "brick wall" for a long time and I'm not sure this is a correct line to follow. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!
