I have hit a road-block and hoping someone can guide me as to next steps -

I am working to complete the children of Ole; and have run out of known options -

The children are:
Ole Olsen Hanevold - Birth 12 June 1829 in Presterud, Kolbu, Vestre Toten, Oppland, Norway. I have confirmed his birth, baptism, and confirmation - after that nothing. I have searched Digitalarkivet censuses, marriages, deaths, with no real success; A couple of leads that went nowhere.

Marte Maria Olsdtr Hanevold - Birth 7 Apr 1835 in Hoel, Kolbu,Vestre Toten, Oppland, Norway. As with Ole, I have confirmed birth, baptism and confirmation. Also located an out-migrant record in the church records - in 1855 she moves to Christiana. From there, she vanishes.

I suspect they both emigrated to America with the rest of their brothers and sisters; however, have not been able to substantiate this. Is there other alternatives to searching passenger records?

Thanks for any helpful hints!

The parents of Ole Olsen and Marte Maria Olsdatter were married July 25 1829, see #35.
Ole Pedersen was then a widower and a sergeant, he was 56 years old.
Guline Gulbrandsdatter was 28 years old.

Sorry, I should have given you more info - I'll detail here; please note, if you have access to Ancestry.com, the details / citations are on "Hanevold Family Tree". Also, there was a previous topic regarding this family...although not regarding these children.

Ole Pedersen Hanevold - born Sep 1775; died 7 May 1853
Married Mari Thomasdtr Smorstad (1785 - 1827) on 3 Jan 1812; they had six children:
Martin Olsen Hanevold (1812 - 1838)
Ole Olsen Hanevold (1814-1814)
Olina Olsdtr Hanevold (1815 - 1861) married Andreas Hansen Roise 12 Jan 1837; Andreas and their children immigrated to Wisconsin between 1869-1872 setting in Trempealeau County.
Pernille Olsdtr Hanevold (1817 - presumed to have died in Wisconsin) married Bendix Evensen Kalbakken; They and their children arrived in Black Earth, Dane County Wisconsin, settling in Beloit, Rock County Wisconsin.
Johannes Olsen Hanevold (1816 - 1820)
Andreas Olsen Hanevold (1822 - 1879) He died in Norway. He had two marriages - Agnette Pedersdtr Sorlein (1831-1871). They had 3 children; each of them arriving in Rock County between 1879 - 1880. Second wife - Pernille Hansdtr Bonderud (1834 - ?) they had 2 children arriving 1882 and 1895.

Ole then married Guline Gulbrandsdtr Hovern (1801 - 1839) on 25 Jul 1829 - they had three children:
Ole Olsen Hanevold - the subject of this inquiry. No trace after his confirmation in 1844 when he is living at Skinderviken, Vestre Toten, Norway. He was confirmed at Aas, Vestre Toten. When Marte Maria was confirmed in 1850 the family was at Gjerstad, Kolbu, Vestre Toten.
Maria Olsdtr Hanevold - born 28 Mar 1831 - she married Johannes Christiansen Sund on 16 Sep 1851; they left Norway 12 Apr 1853, just before her father, Ole's, death. They traveled with Johannes' parents and their young son - they are found in Vermont, Dane County Wisconsin in 1860; by 1870 settling in Sumner, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin
Marte Maria Olsdtr Hanevold - also subject of this inquiry. As stated above, she leaves Vestre Toten 2 Jan 1855 for Christiana - I'm guessing to eventually join her siblings in America?

I hope this helps - thanks for your responses!

Sorry, should have also mentioned, after Guline's death, Ole married Helene Nilsdtr Nyhus (1805 -1880) on 27 Dec 1843. I found her living at Torgunrud Vestre, Kolbu, Vestre Toten in 1865. No sign of Ole or Marte there. She died at Torgenrud also.

From what I can see the children in Norway did not use their father's Hanevold identifier as part of their names - so Ole Olsen and Marte/Marthe Maria Olsdatter would be such common names to be searching for... we could be looking right at them at not know it.

Did all or most of the siblings who emigrated use Hanevold as a surname? I cannot see Ancestry information.

Yes - these names are difficult - it is nearly impossible to try to track them in the US unless they are present with siblings or other relatives. So far, I haven't seen them. Most of the siblings did use Hanevold or Hannevold or Hanewold. Oline's children varied - some Hanevold, some used Anderson in the US.

Thanks for your assistance!

Ole Pedersen Hanevold must have performed a very special accomplishment since he was awarded with Dannebrogsorden.

Thank you for the link. I had the pleasure of meeting Helge years ago in Toten. He shared an article he wrote about Ole. I wonder if it is the same one. I did send an inquiry using the second link. Thank you Kare. Any chance his family history is posted somewhere? I'd like to learn about Ole and Marte Maria.

Thanks again-

You are welcome.
Ole Pedersen Hanevold was awarded for bravery in the 1808 war against Sweden.

1813 it was hunger in Norway because of late harvest, and it was protests and minor uprisings against the Bailiffs.
The farmer uprising on Toten where Ole Pedersen Hanevold was mentioned as the alleged leader since it was passed aroung small pieces of paper with the message where they should meet.
Ole P. Hanevold refused. "I can neither read nor write" he said.
Down page right side for the document from the investigation of the uprising link

From the same official document.
To ask for help Ole Pedersen Hanevold visited Christian Fredrik in Oslo who became king of Norway in 3 mths in 1814 link

Ole Pedersen Hanevold avoided punishment since he had not been violent and was a highly decorated military.

Kåre -

Thanks for the official statement regarding the uprising - it is very interesting! Your post regarding the Vest Oppland Historical assosiation journal registry; 1984 3 - 27 pages - Author - Bekkevold Helge - Kolbuingen (the man from Kolbu) that was (appointed) Dannebrogsmann - Ole Pedersen Hanevold - yes, this is the same article Helge shared with me. I thought you might be interested, here is a part of the article written by Helge regarding the Dannebrogsman:

... from The Royal Order historiographer, Copenhagen source: Registry of Danneborgsmænd 1808-1812 I found the following statement:" Ole Pedersen Hanevold. Weaponmaster of the Norwegian Jægerkrops, Company 3 in Norway, Frederikshald in Cantonnement. He distinguished himself 14th April in a raid by (in?) Sweden under Lieutenant Hegge’s Commando, and 5 May during the action near Opsahl in Rødenæs, he fought with dauntless courage, excellence and superior speed." So, Danish Prince Christian August awarded him silver cross and does so humbly reported 18 August 1808. Appointed Dannebrogsmand 22nd September 1808. Has passed a written oath 5th April 1809. Died in 1853. Decorations incoming 23 August. remark: Silver Cross is the decoration, which makes the wearer to Dannebrogsmand. Prince has thus so to speak decorated Hanevold in anticipated grant. Tage Kaarstad, Professor, dr. phil

Appreciate your interest and links to information!

Best regards,

Phylaine
