After giving up my grandfather as a foster child, my great-grandfather Karl Olai Mikkelsen married and had 5 daughters before drowning in the Alverstraumen in 1881. In the 1900 census for 1257 Alversund in Hordaland, his widow Anna Jensdtr and 3 of the 4 surviving daughters were operating the family farm, Alver. In the 1910 census, they are gone - someone from Bergen owns the farm.
Where did they go? I have found no record after 1900. Daughters were: Ingeborg Gurine, born 1868; Andrine Maria, b. 1870; Magreta, b. 1873; Olgaard, b. 1875 (died at 8 days) and Gjetta, b. 1879. Their surnames variously written as Olaisdtr or Karlsdtr.
Seems like some trace should remain among these women .

Well you might want to look through the deaths in Alversund, like #3

Source information: Hordaland county, Alversund in Alversund, Parish register (official) nr. A 3 (1897-1926), Death and burial records 1899-1901, page 146.

Ron - What records have you already searched? Deaths? Marriages? Emigration from Bergen?

You need to look-up the marriage to be sure.

Hi

Andrine in the 1910 census?:
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01036700000532

Also here it must be verified by looking up the marriage.

Vivi I believe you have found all four daughters in the 1910 census! I will look for the two marriages. My thanks to all.

One other thing: Can anyone decipher the abbreviation "fl" in the "Familiestilling" column of the 1910 census? It is entered for Ingeborg Mikkelsen, unmarried woman living in Bergen with a sister and a child who is, I think, their niece.

One more thing on this topic: I have found a death record for my great-grandfather's widow, formerly Anna Jensdtr, entered in the Bergen Dodsfallprotokoll 9 as Anna Mikkelsen.
Would you please take a look at the entry for her death on 17 May 1910, Bilde 27, page 26, 4th entry down: Gaardsbrukers enke Mikkelsen Anna, age 72. Any help in deciphering the other entries of her death record would be appreciated. I can see that a list of her surviving family is included.
