I have searched for the date/year of immigration for Ole P Hovland (b. 1817 to Per Hallvardson Hovland and Gunnhild Eiriksdtr Hola Hovland) and wife, Anna Oldsdtr Hatleberg (b. 1824/1825 in Laerdal to Ola Hatleberg and Brita Hallvarsdtr). Ole would have been from the Hovland farm at Ardal, Sogn, and I have in my information that Anna was from Laerdal area. I cannot find when they and their 3 children (Britha b. 1844, Guri b.1848 & Peter b.1952) came to America. I would appreciate any help available. Thank you. |

Persons known to have emigrated from an area that close to Bergen would be expected to have left from that major port. The bad news is that Bergen emigrant protocols don't really exist until 1874. There are just a few exceptions.
So for those of us who had early Norwegian emigrant ancestors to the US from that part of Norway we are often without any documentation of a date/year unless some notation was made in local parish records (not mandatory) or some record in the US reveals at least an approximate.
Your Ole P Hovland lived in Brush Creek township, Faribault Co., Minnesota? living until he was 90 yrs old and possibly married more than once? |

I believe Brita Hallvarsdatter was Britte Halversdatter at Aspreim in 1801. She was born Febr 3 1799, baptized at home same day named Brithe. This was confirmed in church Febr 24, see 2nd record on left page. Parents Halvor Nielsen and Anna Olsdatter.

I believe Gunnilda Eriksdatter, Hovland who married Peder Halvorsen, Hovland June 21 1817 must be Gunhilde Erichsdatter at Hovland in 1801.

Thank you! We have always thought they came in the mid 50's but the 1900 census stated 1850. Now the records show that they emigrated in 1854. This has been a puzzle for us. Apparently Ole and family lived in Dane Co., Wisconsin before moving to Brush Creek Township, Minnesota. Ole's brother, Erik Hovland and family came directly to Brush Creek Twp. due to Ole and family now living there. Thank you again! |

Yes, wife is #70, and children #70-#73. They "signed out" of the parish on 21 Apr 1854. They probably went by a sailing ship from Bergen to Quebec. |

Lærdal has beautiful nature surronded by high mountans and Lærdals river is one of the best for Salomon Fishing, and the kings favourite. "Easy" to travel to, from the airpoprt ca one hour by car and ferry. Attaching some photos from Lærdal Link
