Hey guys!

I just found another Norwegian ancestor that ended up in South Africa.

This is what I know...

His name was Roelof Andriesen (or Andriessen or Andriesse, etc). He was born around 1735, but that's just a guess based on marriages and children. He is from Drammen, Buskerud, Norway according to his 3rd marriage.

He ended up in Cape Town (Cape of Good Hope), South Africa. All of his marriages happened in, and all the children were born in Cape Town.

He married 3 times - Catharina Pieternella van de Caab; Rosina Dorothea Arendse; and finally Isabella Magdalena van der Schijf.

First marriage produced 3 children - Magdalena & Christina Willemina (twins) born in 1759, and Carolus Petrus born in 1762.

Second marriage produced 5 children - Rosina Dorothea born in 1765, Johannes Jacobus born in 1771, Bartholomeus Z˙delaar born in 1773, Rudolphus Jacobus born in 1777, and Johanna Wilhelmina born in 1780.

There were no children with the third marriage.

I haven't been able to find his birth information, so any help would be great guys! :)

Thanks,
Angela

PS. This family was part of the settlement of the Dutch Cape Colony, which is quite excited. :)

This Family Tree on Geni.com gives his birth year as 1760. Unfortunately not much else is given for him except the birth location.

http://www.geni.com/people/Roelof-Andriessen/6000000008184909442

And this tree gives 1735 as a birth year.

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Andriessen-40

And this site would have you beleive that he was on a voyage in 1706 and is actually from the Netherlands.

Or if you click on one of the links, that he was employed in 1788, which may fit your man better.

And a more complete tree on Ancestry.com has this information. One word of caution on his birth country. Roelof is a very common first name in the Netherlands and a very uncommon name in either Norway or Sweden.
