I have a typed family tree done by a relative about 1972. In it she has a Knut Tolleivson who married Rangdi Olsdatter Hoime Knut supposedly died in 1701 in Vestre Slidre, Oppland. I can't find a church record as they don't go back that far. How would this woman has found this information about Knut and all his children being born starting about 1673? Perhaps I am missing a resource that she had but I don't believe she even had the Internet.

Perhaps she was able to access a bygdebok on Vestre Slidre. Here is some information on the various books for Vestre Slidre. Many bygdebøker go back that far. Note Voloume I in this series.

The source could be the farm history book "Vang og Slire" by Tore Ey, published 1916. Not sure what the author's source for this year of death was, but the probate registry is likely.

Hi

Here is his probate dated 20. february 1702.
I'm having trouble reading this, but I read Knud Tollefsen.

I was able to access this Bygdebok at the Library the other day. It does not have much information on Knut Tolleivsen so the information from your relative probably did not come from this Bygdebok.

Beitrusten, G. Gardar og slekter i Vestre Slidre 1979 DL596.V335 V35 Farms Reprinted in 2001 in two parts; see also Valdres

In the section on Skrøvike page 556 is found this information. Translated as best I could.

"In 1664 the user of the farm was Gudmundsen Mosøygarden Skrøvike His wife was widowed in 1670 and held the rights to Skorøvike. She married a Knut Tollefsen and it was he who took over as owner of the farm. In 1702 his son Nils Knutsen became the leaseholder of Skrøvike. His son Knut Nilsen got an extension in 1740."

Not much more than that in this Bygdebok, that I could find.
