I am new to this forum and wish to ask for help in finding some details regarding my great grandparents.
I am specifically trying to find out where they are buried. The information I have is through the Oystad Church records in Asdal, Norway.
Mikkel Kristian (Christian) Mortensen – Born: July 19, 1837 Anne Johnsdatter – Born: February 28, 1847 They were married (2nd marriage for him) on November 13, 1874
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Mikkel and 3 sons still alive in 1910. Date of birth does not seem right.

Einar...Birth records show that Mikkel had (4) sons with his 2nd wife and with the research I've done, all (4) sons immigrated to the USA. Mikkel would have been 73 years old in 1910...so very possible |

Lyndal 40...that could very well be him but I don't see any record of his wife (my great grandmother) He would have been 76 at death with this information. Thank you! |

Thank you for the census information Lyndal 40. I find it a bit odd that all (4) of Mikkel's sons are listed on the 1900 census because the immigration information I have shows the (2) older sons immigrating in 1895 and 1892? The other (2) came to the US in 1907 and 1912. |

Family Search Records from the Church of Latter-Day Saints. It looks like they aren't correct.
My grandfather (Syvert) arrived after Anders...And your records show that Morten arrived in 1912...not sure about John
I have another question if you don't mind. The Oyestad church records refer to a farm called "Vaedingle". Is that the family name of a farm? |

Anne died July 6 1906, see #26. She was born at Rise. The record for Mikkel shows he died Dec 5 1913, see #34. He was born at Gjennestad.

Reading churchbooks can be a challenge. I would assume it was written Væding, that is a farm in Øyestad, Aust-Agder.

Thank you so much Einar. I truly appreciate your looking into this for me. This is the same death record that Lyndal 40 found for Mikkel. Does it look as though they are buried at the same cemetery? Bjorbekk in Arendal? |

Would you know if the Vaeding Farm still exists?
I found the Bjorbekk Church near Asdal and I am correct to assume that the cemetery on the church property is the one that is referenced for Mikkel?
I can't thank you both enough for all this help...I am planning a visit next year and want to drive to these places |

Emigration for Syvert 1905 http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/gen/vis/8/pe00000000309746
Since Anders was a seaman (per census and the travel record), he could have been to America before 1908 (before Syvert). Ellis Island was open by this time, so check the passenger manifests at Ellis Island free website that fit with the departure records posted here. Check page 1 and page 2 of the manifests to learn more about each trip.
Yes the transcription of a record (typed version) on Ancestry, Family Search, etc. gives some basic info, but original (usually handwritten) records tell much more. Looking at an original record can help avoid choosing the wrong record, due to showing more specifics about the person. Often researchers in this forum run tag team (which I find to be incredibly fun, that they work together). A transcription is found and posted - which then makes it short work to find the original. So the second post of the "same" record is an intentional addition.
When stating what is your source? for a given "fact," a specific record should be posted (type it and post, or post a link). A generic answer like "I read it in a book" or "I searched Ancestry" isn't fully answering the need for specific documentation. In using terms like "my research" one conveys that a specific record is meant. If the info comes from an online tree with no documentation, it's ok to say that. The forum just needs to be able to assess the evidence, gauge its credibility, review it for clues, and so on. Notice the way forum contributors are not saying "according to my research" (= according to me). Instead the facts are posted ACCORDING TO a specific record or other documentation that is then posted.
Hope this advice is helpful.
