I am trying to validate if the November 1886 ship manifest for my great grand uncle, Samuel Cohen, arrived in NY 1886 per a 1910 Federal Census, is in fact my GG uncle.

The manifest notes his name, but not whom he is visiting, but I have no reason to believe it is not.

Anything I can do see if there are other pages to help prove this is or is not my relative?

Thank you.

There is not a lot of information in the original manifests in years as early as 1886. The only information in thie original manifest for this Samuel Cohen arriving in New York in November of 1886 is his name Samuel Cohen, age 22, landlord and Russia. It does appear that traveling with Samuel is a lady Fanny ,21, female, wife. and Hinde?, 9/12, female, baby.

I assume that this is the Samuel Cohen you mean (there are many dozens):
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M5QX-ZFF

The actual census schedule also relates that he and his wife have each been married only once for 19 years. He came in 1886 and she came in 1888, so obviously did not travel together. Still the couple coming in 1886 might not be a married couple, nor even related.

I think you mean 1910 and it is visible when you click on it. However the Samuel Cohen who arrived in Novemeber of 1886 posted above did have a wife named Fanny and chld named Hinda and the 1910 Samuel Cohen has a wife named Pauline and they were married in 1893 according to the 1910 Census. So what happened to Fanny and Hinda in the intervening years or did Fanny become Pauline. Pauliine is a little younger than the Fanny in the imigration record but not terribly so and she is also born in Russia so it is possible that the two are the same. Here is another look at the 1910 Census.

Now, based on that last census, can anyone help locate Sam's US Citizenship paperwork? That would be golden!

Thank you very much.

If the 1900 census can be found, that would be great as well!

I have tried my ancestry account, stevemorse and familysearch. Maybe I overlooked, or searched wrong, but no luck.

If you can find it, please help :-)

Thanks.

Would be great to see how far back we can go, NY or Federal, for census records.

Thanks.

I think that Jane has found the Samuel Cohen and famly that you pointed to in the 1910 US Census. However I still do not see a good connecton between that Samuel Cohen and the Samuel Cohen who arrived in November of 1886.

Gertrude Krinsky was Sam Cohen's daughter. I have been in touch with her son. He did provide me with Sam's burial plot and date of death.

Thanks.
