The manifest says he is age 40 and has spent 24 years at sea. He engaged at Stavanger on 11 May 1950. This ship is arriving from Curacao N.W.I. at New York. His height is 172 cm and his weight is 59 kilos. He has one operation mark in stomage (scar?). He has never been detained on arrival in U.S. as an alien. He is not going to be discharged at New York.
There is no other biographical information on his entry. |

Besides the manifest that is cited by you and the expansion of it by Jackie there are several other trips taken by a Nils Anderson in 1951. He is always a Steward on the Kongsgaard. Here is one of the transcriptions from Ancestry.com.

A word of caution, there are several other seaman with a similar name and similar birth year working at this same time. There is a Nils W, Nils G and Nils Ivar. |

Can any more info be gleamed from the various Numbers on the listing . Like a second name, maybe a seaman's log book?
Can this info be obtained from the ships owners records if they still exist? |

As you go through harvest the name and any numbers behind the name. The names in the index are approximately chronological, so you'd expect earlier dates, smaller numbers near the beginning and more lately born men closer to the end. That's just generally true but some names are overlapping in time.
The numbers are found in different albums, separate from the index and contain records of ship names, date of mustering, harbor put to, sometimes parents names and addresses, etc.
The majority of sailor records in Norway are not indexed and not all are available online. There are a few actual records from some other ports & places mounted online but not indexed.

This is the earliest record I have found for the sailor Nils Andersen born abt. 1909. He is listed as a galley boy and having never travelled to the US. Ship is called the Stella Polaris
