Relationship between your Peder Sevals and Thomas might depend on how many Jonas Thomassons there are in Modum in the 1840s. Here is a baptism for a Thomas Jonasson in 1846 in Modum: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NHS4-8QH
Interesting, #37 Thomas Jonassen baptism, parents on Sevalseiet: SAKO, Modum kirkebøker, F/Fa/L0007: Parish register (official) no. 7, 1841-1850, p. 67 Quick link: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/kb20051114020521
Or depend on how many Jonas Thomasson and Kirstine Pedersdatter there are on Sevals in Modum in the 1840s.

As jkmarler posted, a Thomas Jonassen was born in Modum 02 January 1845, parents Jonas Thomassen and Kristine Pedersdatter link Also posted by jkm, same birth, but shown in the original record.link
Same parents names - Jonas Thomassen and Kirstine Pedersdatter - for this Peder born 17 April 1848, also posted by jkmarler link
We can say that so far this Thomas and this Peder seem to be brothers.
n 1869 Peder is headed to LaCrosse, Wisconsin - along the St Croix River on the west boundary of Wisconsin.
Thomas Sevals in 1870 in Wisconsin link
In 1880 census Thomas is in Ceylon, St Croix, Wisconsin link (original on Family Search)
Back with a family tree - it leaves out Thomas b 1845. link |

Obituary for Peter Sevals Barron County News-Shield (Barron county, Wisconsin, newspaper) died 1905 Prairie Farm, Wisconsin widowed; leaves one son James Sevals link
Fits 1900 census posted by LinHan at the start. Plus James Sevals and wife Andrea are mentioned in an earlier thread of LinHan's: link
The point is that surely the posted death record is correct for LinHan's Peter Sevals. It gives Peter's mother as Gunhild Sevals - not Kirstine Pedersen - but seemingly "Gunhild" is a mistake. link
Just saying that out loud, because the discrepancy is relevant to identifying Peter's siblings.
LinHan, do you have a copy of Peter's marriage record or naturalization papers?
We could seek Thomas J Sevals marriage record. When his son George married in Montana, parents names were Thomas Sevals and Dena Thoen. In 1900 census Dena is listed born in Norway April 1847, immigrated 1865: link
This Ole Hansen Thoen emigrating 1865 has a daughter Randine of the right age. link
Geni tree claims the same Ole Hansen Thoen died in St Croix county, Wisconsin. If true, he's in the right place to have acquired a son-in-law Thomas Sevals. link
Same Geni tree gives Randine Olsdatter Thoen a birth of 30 April 1846 in Modum, Buskerud: link
Tree creator gives Randine husband as "Clevels" - pretty similar to Sevals.
Haven't found a marriage record for Thomas though.
Hmmm... now I see that when son Barney Thoen got married, his mother's name was listed as Deana Peterson. (Family Search).
More research needed. |

Hi
Kristine must have died, because 12. oct. 1855 widower Jonas Thomassen Sevaltz is married to Nicoline Andersdatter in Heggen church, Modum. (Nicoline often was called Line or Lene/Lena)

Likely the arrival of Peder into America. Looking at the original manifest the last name is probably spelled Sevali. Also the person directly below Peder is probably Jørgen Jensen Snarterud (transcribed as Jorgen Jensen Justernd) who is next to Peder in the Emigratns list. And the person above him is likely Peder Andersen Sønsteby, (transcribed as Peder Anderson Saintely) also next to Peder in the Emigrants list. Everyone on this page of the manifest is listed as being from Sweden so may not have much meaning.
Peder Jonasen Levali in the New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Name: Peder Jonasen Levali Arrival Date: 16 Jun 1869 Birth Date: abt 1848 Age: 21 Gender: Male Ethnicity/ Nationality: Swedish Place of Origin: Sweden Port of Departure: Glasgow, Scotland and Moville, Ireland Destination: United States of America Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Europa |

Hi
Norway was in a union with Sweden from 1814 to 1905 so it is not completely wrong to say they came from Sweden. |
