Looking for information On Helmer Johan Ellefsen born January 31, 1866 in Tromoy, Norway and Ellef Andreas Ellefsen for April 12, 1968 in Tromoy, Norway.

Also, seamen records for my grandfather, Nikolai Ellefsen, born November 17, 1875 in Tromoy, Norway.

Could you be more specific. What is it you are looking for besides the Seamen records. You have 10 or so previous posts so I assume that you would like something that was not covered in those posts or you have not been able to find on your own.

Also are your dates and names correct. I find a Ellef Andreas but he is the one born Jan 31, 1866, so I am somewhat confused as to what you are looking for and for whom?

Looking for what specific information? Both were born after the 1865 census, Tromøy, Aust-Agder is not one of the areas in the online databases for the 1875 census and I do not believe there is any bygdebok for that area.

You need to read the article about seamans records to understand what might be involved before you can obtain that type of information.

You probably already have this from 1900 census:

Here are monstring mustering records that are online. Don't see Arendal so you will have to contact the archives and see if any exist in their holdings.
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/db/browse?start_year=&end_year=&text=+m%C3%B8nstringskontor&page=1

It's possible that their monstrings might be found here:

It's helpful if you tell more about the person and the family.

The birth dates got accidentally mixed up in the opening query.

MARRIAGE
07 May 1898
Our Savior's Lutheran Church
Brooklyn, New York
Bachelor Andreas Ellefsen born 31 January 1866 in -?- Moland, parents Halvor Ellefsen and Jørgine Nilsd.
to
Unmarried woman Emilie C. Kristensen born 05 May 1872 in -?- Fl-?fjord, parents Bernt Kristensen and Elisabeth -?-

I believe this is the church where your grandfather Nikolai Ellefsen married Hanna Mathilde Terkelsen 01 December 1906, is that right?

Emilie must have the wrong birth year as well. At six she would be a little young to marry

An ELCA record gives the birth as May 15, 1872

Another ELCA gives May 5, 1872 and location as Feda, Flekkefjord, Vest-Agder, Norway.

Bernt Kristensen
in the U.S., Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Records, 1875-1940
Name: Bernt Kristensen
Spouse: Elisabeth Nilsen
Church Name: Our Saviour's Lutheran
Church Location: Brooklyn, New York

Nice find tho.

The only information I need for my grandfather, Nikolai Ellefsen, is his seaman's registration. I have the information on his marriage to my grandmother in 1906 in Brooklyn, New York and all of the censuses. He was my mother's father. I can't locate where and when he came to the U.S. The 1900 census still has him in Norway living with his mother. The census shows his mother was receiving a pension, are there any records of the pensions, if I knew when hers began I could probably find when he died.

Thank you all for everything.

Do you not know when he died?

This Fine-A-Grave would indicate that he died in New Jersey in 1935

Nickoli Ellefsen
in the U.S., Find A Grave Index, 1600s-Current
Name: Nickoli Ellefsen
Birth Date: 1875
Death Date: 1935
Burial or Cremation Place: Camden, Camden County, New Jersey, USA

Thanks, I wondered about that I had always thought he was out to sea in 1900.

If Nikolai Ellefsen was a seaman and in England or at sea in 1900, in New York, US by 1906 and died in 1935 (buried in New Jersey, US) then have you checked the US censuses of 1910, 1920 and 1930? At least two of those asked the question of immigrants about when then came to US.
Did he become a naturlized US citizen? His naturalization papers with the US government should give some additional information about how and when he arrived -- especially if he went through that process after 1906.
If he was a working seaman then he may well be recorded on crew member lists of ships arriving at US ports. Which port? I cannot and would not hazard a guess.
Crew would not be recorded on a passenger manifest section of a ship of arriving immigrants. If he was seaman on a merchant ship you will need to check whether or not US ports kept such crew lists.

In response to Lyndal 14 and Hopkins, I do know much about my grandfather, Nikoklai. Where I am stumped is his seamen's records. I cannot find any information on his arrival in the U.S., although I know he lived in Brooklyn, New York when he came here and married my grandmother. I know his death date and also where he is buried. He was my mother's father. He died before I was born.

I appreciate all your help, I am going to Washington D.C. in October and hope to be able to check out more records.

So you have found him in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 US censuses? Entry date to US was not recorded?
You've already searched out US naturalization records?
