Possible ships; Albertine, Alert, Amerika (less likely) Drafna, Erik Børresen, Fremad, Freya, Lolland and Porsgrund (My guess)

They married April 5. 1831, perhaps some of their first born children died young. Gunnhild was born ca 1838.

Nils Pedersen is most likely the one bapticed Sept 25 1774, see #52. His parents were Peder Østensen and Ingebor Nilsdatter, Boer. They were married June 26 1768, see #9.

Interesting, Gunhild kept the Norwegian Knudsdatter (Knuds daughter) name in USA. She probably had many questions about her last name.
Did or when did she change to Olsen?

The ELCA churches in the 1800's were very Norwegian. The church books were written in Norwegian and the names tended to be in the Norwegian fashion. The same person might be listed as Gunnhild Knudsdatter in the ELCA record and an americanized version in say the Census Records
Gunhild Olson in the 1860 United States Federal Census Name: Gunhild Olson Age: 22 Birth Year: abt 1838 Gender: Female Birth Place: Norway Home in 1860: Berry, Dane, Wisconsin Post Office: Berry Family Number: 1606 Value of real estate: View image Household Members: Name Age Ole Olson 34 Gunhild Olson 22 Gina M Olson 4 Anne M Olson 1

This is likely some of the family making up the witness group for the birth of the two children of Gunnhild.

Based on the emigration data, the family of Knud, Margit and Gunnhild should be somewhere in America for the 1850 US Census. Even if both of her parents died before the 1850 Census Gunnhiild would have been alive for the census since we know she had a child Gina in Dane County in 1856. Other records attest to her alive status for 1850 Census as well.

Assuming that she is in Dane County for the 1850 Census a possible candidate is a girl named Mary Knute.
1850 US Census
She is living with the family of Halvor Kittelsen and Joran Nilsdatter from Tinn, Telemark. Based on the names and the location of the marriage ie Tinn, Telemark, I think that this is the marriage of Halvor and Joran.
Halvor Kettilsen in the Norway Marriages, 1600s-1800s Name: Halvor Kettilsen Age: 25 years Gender: Male Birth Date: Ca.1814 Marriage Date: 8 apr 1839 Marriage Place: Tinn, Telemark, Norway Spouse: Joron Nielsdr Spouse's Age: 23 years Spouse's Gender: Female Spouse's Birth Date:

According to this record Halvor Kittelsen and wife Joran and child Kittel left Tinn in 1841.
Link
Joran is a Nilsdatter and so perhaps directly related to Knud, however the baptism record for Joran does not seem to support that conjecture.
Joran's' parents are Nils Jonsen and Gunhild Kittelsdatter.

Halvor Kittelson and wife Joron Nielsdatter are identified in Norwegian Immigrants to the United States: A Biographical Directory Volume 1 1825-1843 page 117 as arriving on the Horner in Boston on 9 Aug 1841.
Joron's parents are Niels Johnson Luraas and Gunnild Kittilsdatter Luraas.
Halvor and Joron had at least 4 more children in US but none are named Mary: Ingeborg b 31 Aug 1841, Niels b 22 Sept 1844, Ingebjør 8 Dec 1846 and Gunhild b 7 Nov 1849.
Sources of information on the family are listed in the book are: Koshkonong Lutheran parish registers Flom page 317 Anders Svalestuen Tinn-soga II; 196 1850 census |

First, I want to thank all of you for your responses, I've been busy tending to business the last few weeks and had not checked back on the thread for some time. I will have to absorb all the references...THANKS
I believe I found the family in the 1850 Federal Census living in Muskego, Waukesha, Wisconsin. Dwelling Number 1330 Family 1351 listed as Kimdt Nelson age 36 with his wife Margaret age 30 and daughter Kennel age 11. Knut’s age is not correct, but the family matched. Spelling of the translator leaves much to be desired
1850 Federal Census for Gunnild Knutsdatter
Gunnild Married in the early 1850’s and the records of child births in the Perry Lutheran church records are correct, The clergy traveled in those days and Berry Township would have been one of the stops. Ole and Gunnild have four other children, all boys with the last one born in 1868. Gunnild, who changed her name to Julia sometime prior to 1870 as she shows up in in the 1870 Census as a widow in Arena, Wisconsin living with the children as her husband Ole Oleson has passed away.
1870 Federal Census for Julia Oleson & Family
I cannot find where Knut or Margit Neilson have gone. I have not been able to locate them in the 1860 or the 1870 Federal Census. I have tracked down a land deed record in 1856 where Knut and Margrit Neilson sell a portion of his land in Berry Township to Ole Oleson, past that they disappear...Maybe by tracing some of the sponsor links from Gunnild's children baptism to see if they might lead to where Knut and Margarit went? Any other ideas?
