Here is some information on Thomas Severson. I would like to know his parents.

1910

Based on the 1910 Census this may be him

Tomas Ole Severson Myren
in the U.S. Naturalization Record Indexes, 1791-1992 (Indexed in World Archives Project)
Name: Tomas Ole Severson Myren
[Tomas Ole Severson]
Birth Place: Norway
Court District: Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa
Date of Action: 2 Sep 1913

Address is Forestville, Wisconsin. and the original lists Court as Cir. Door Co. Sturgeon Bay Wi

Here is the family in 1900, I think the first name is incorrect based on all the other data I have found for him in American sources.

1900

Arrival year is all over the map

For what it's worth, The Door County Advocate published a story on Friday 16 Oct 1931, page 1, column 1, about the 50th wedding anniversary / family reunion of Thomas and Julia Severson. They were married at Forestville on 8 Oct 1881 and had 14 children. It says about their origins in Norway: "Mr Severson was born in Valders, Norway on August 18, 1853 and he came to this country with his parents 63 years ago and settled at Forestville." and "Mrs. Severson, whose maiden name was Julia Olson, was born at the same place in Norway December 4, 1858..."

Not sure if the browser link works or not but will include:

Good information, especially the fact that Julia may have been born in "the same place". and that he came with his parents.

Very good Jackie, the key was that the parents came with. Here is Ole Syversen Ranum (check the baptism record, it also has the farm name of Ranum). Wife is Marit Andersdatter along with son Thron 16, Erik 13,

Well Jackie with the information you provided I have just about tracked down Tom Severson and his family. As shown above they came from Nord-Aurdal, Oppland in 1870. They left the first born Tom {Thorn} behind in Rock County where he married in 1877 fathered a child then moved Door County, while the family moved on to the Dakota Territory for the 1880 Census.

1880

The married Erik, wife children and widowed Ole can be found in the 1901 Canadian Census for Alberta.

Family Search seems to be a bit picky on how much it will show for this census.

1901

Now I am still working on Julia Olson wife of Tom Severson so any help you can give there is always appreciated.

Furthering the Julia Olson research, the original 1931 article I quoted said that she "came to this country 53 years ago, after a short time in Rock county, the Olsons came to Forestville." It implies that she was not alone on her journey.

Door County Advocate, 20 July 1928 page 5, col 5, Claybanks item missed in the previous week's issue due to lack of space:
"Word was recieved by relatives of O. Rye of Whitewater of his sudden death Monday. Mr. Rye was a brother of Austin Christianson of Sawyer and a brother-in-law of Mrs. Thomas Severson and Mrs. Math. Nygaard..."

Mrs. Math Nygaard in FAG where in she is listed as born Ulnes Nord Aurdal 1861 and named Anna Olson Dahl:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/59382966/anna-olson-nygaard

Door County Advocate, 29 April 1952 page 4:
Column of "20 years ago April 29, 1932"
"Mrs. Thomas Severson, early resident of Forestville, died at her home from heart troubles last week Thursday."

Possibly the family in the 1865 census has both a Guri and an Anne:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01038074004303

And another family with a Guri and an Anne:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01038074000763
Ages of the girls in this family not a good match to those in US.

A 19year old Guri Olsdatter leaving in 1878:

Good finds, I should be able to dig into all the info. Here is a start from several trees.

Name
Anna Olsdatter Olson Dahl
Spouse
Mathias Nygaard
Father
Ole Hansen Suenneseie
Mother
Anne Oldsdatter
Children
Edmund Allen
Birth
17 Sep 1861 Norway
Death
1950 Sturgeon Bay, Door, WI

Sort of fits your first link in Ulnes, Some of the fadder have the farm name of Svennes.

This is the baptism record of Anne, farm Kjørnes

#25

Confirmation

#7

And the baptism record for Guri, farm Kjørnes

#4

Confirmation record

#8

In the old meta data base there are three, probably sisters going to Wisconsin.

Link

The three are Anne, Inger?, and Guri, which fits your 1865 Census family for Ole Hansen quite well. Although there is also an Ingeborg in the second group as well.

I think there is an issue with one of the three Olsdatters that left in 1878. The one labelled Ingerr? J? is not likely to be the same person as Inga Olson married Ole Rye. The age for Inger? J? leaving 1878 is 17, which gives a birth year of 1861. The birth date for Inga Olson Rye is given as Mar 12, 1852 in several places. Also the 1900 Census lists the arrival year of Inga as 1873 and her marriage year as 1875.

That does not change much. Just that we do not know who the third emigrant was or even what her first name is.

I think looking at the original handwritten entries of the police lists might reveal more about the confusion. In the transcription of the record there are question marks on Inger already so perhaps there was an issue with the information, in the first place.

Clearly, Inger did migrate unless there are records such as a death, a marriage in Norway or some other thing which reveals a different fate for her than that which we've found.

Here is the arrival of the three into New York in Oct of 1878. The original record gives Guri 19, Ingeri 18 and Anna 17. The transcription leaves something to be desired.

The transcription calls them Gum, Meri, and Anna. Here is Anna

Here are some candidates for the Ingrid who accompanied the sisters Guri and Anna on their emigration in 1878.

Could there be a connection with Ole Rye. Here is likely Ole Rye and his family on Ryemarken in 1865 Census.

1865

And a candidate from Rye

Link

Born June 1, 1864 would have been only 14 in 1878, probably a little young to emigrate.

Two others also need a look
