Her name was likely Agathe, but spelling varies. Your 2nd link for Anna list parents with the same names, but farmname is different, it says Weten. But likely the same place, because Veten is located @ Hamre in Leikanger, next to the Sognefjord. Also son Knuett, christened 28 March 1829.
The word Veten means "cairn", and was located on the headlands next to Hamre. The name is because in the old days, the location was used to alert about unrest by lighting a bonfire. Normally the cairns were located on top of high mountains, but not everywere. The lowest cairn known is the Veten next to Hamre in Leikanger, just by the fjord. The headlands there are visible for tens of miles both eastbound and westbound.

That is indeed interesting. With such strong communities it sometimes surprises me what was and of course, what was NOT written down about it all. I have a suspicion that these are the same families. Both Christopher and Anna can be traced to southern Minnesota and I have a DNA connection to their descendents. The only common ancestor we can pinpoint is this Hamre family. Alone the two facts aren't enough but together it's pretty compelling support! |
