I know that Norwegian's use the word dekk for tire. But do you also use the word dekk for the American deck. That is a big wooden structure hanging off the back of a house.
Not a balcony or terrace or patio but a deck |

- A big wooden structure hanging……….., not sure what you mean. Build on the roof with a room inside ? "Ark" or "Oppløft"
- With several windows "hanging" on the wall? A "Karnapp" |

No, we don't use the word "dekk" for such a wooden structure.
We would use either "altan", "balkong", "terrasse" or "veranda" for such a structure. |

Here is how Google Translate handles the group of words from Vivi.
From Vivi: altan", "balkong", "terrasse" or "veranda" for such a structure.
From Google Translate: balcony "," balcony "," terrace "or" porch "for such a structure.
I suppose the english word for deck as the above structure is hard for Google to handle.
The question comes from my attempt in a Norwegian class to answer the question What have you done this summer. My answer was
Jeg jobber på mitt dekk
Which brought lots of laughter and the comment "you spent all summer working on a tire" |

Hi
"Jeg jobber på verandaen min" means you are working with something (writing, cooking, accounting) while you are on your "veranda".
If the work you did was building your "veranda", I would say: "Jeg bygget veranda" or "Jeg snekret veranda".
A little "spissfindig" perhaps. |
