More happy stories brought to you by The Norway Heritage forum: Yesterday morning, I cold-called a dear woman in Wisconsin and managed to explain my odd call from Canada without her hanging up on me. We agreed that she is my second cousin, and we spoke easily for an hour about common ancestors. That she remembers sitting on the knee of her grand-dad in USA, whose brother I remember picking stikkelsbær with in Oslo, was a sublime delight.
The maudlin moment was largely brought about with information found here. I am grateful.
We pretty well established that Georg Kristiansen (born 1860 in Faaberg) Flugstad was the first of our clan to brave American immigration. The 1900 Wisconsin census indicates that he emigrated in or about 1882, but I have never been able to find a record of his departure/arrival. It would be very illuminating to know if he ventured alone, and if he had a specific destination in mind.
And so.....back to you.

From the old database - you can see a list of the others on the same ship's departure if you care to investigate them too.
