Sorry, my computer is acting up. and struggling to type. I have no history of Oluf and Gina in America- if they stay together or she lives past 1895 then he is not my relative. Thanks for all your help- this may all be a red herring so don't work too hard on it.

Your initial question was if this might be "normal emigration of young couple?"

It does happen very often that the husband / father goes over first, with the spouse and children following later, once a household is set up in US. The thing I find a bit peculiar is that if he has situated at McCanna, why she is gone to Vancouver, which seems way out of the way for a usual or customary path. There are many routes closer to Dakota than by going through Vancouver.

Gina's mother Mathea died 25 June 1907, the only survivor mentioned was Mathias F Finsveen in the obituary but if there were a dødsfallprotokol for Mathea and Gina were still alive, she might be mentioned.

Thank you JK. That is very helpful. A follow-up question to this would be is it significant that there is no leaving the parish record? Everything else they did up to that point was in the parish records.

Also here are the death records of Oluf Ingval's parents Marit Mathiasen and Ole Kristiansen. Can you see if there is any obituary for either of them? Where would I find this dødsfallprotokol?

I can't say that I found a death notice or obituary for either Ole or Marit at the newspaper site. There appears to be no papers from Lillehammer covering 1911 in the base (based on a search for just Ole of which there should have been many and there were none.) I looked for just Ole, Ole Kristiansen, Ole Kristiansen Randsgaardhagen, Ole Hagen and for Marit, Marit Mattiasdatter, Marit Mathiasdatter, Marit Hagen.

In all the papers from Lillehammer, there was only one notice with Randgaardshagen (none found with Randgårdshagen) mentioned. It was an auction sale by Ole Kristiansen Randgaardshagen in 1899.

Here is where you can search for dødsfallsprotokol under Probate Records tab:

Thank you, I found the dødsfallsprotokol for Gina's mother and I think it says something about 4 of her 5 children are in America. Last record on left page

Yay- Now I found Oluf Invald's mother's death record and it confirms two of her children in America and 1 in Sweden- so it is certain that he did emigrate. Third from the bottom left.

Thanks so much for teaching me about this JK

Velkommen.

Gina did not go through Vancouver, she landed in Quebec and she travelled on the Carthaginian. Had a bit of a look today at Ancestry.

People leaving this parish don't seem to have been entered in the register in any regular, chronological fashion; it seems more like the priest once in a while notes that someone is no longer there, and then write their names down several years after the fact. If this is how it was done, the chances are good of not making it in (or do you say to??) the book:

Solved the mystery of why Gina was going to Mc Canna North Dakota, her older sister went there 2 years before, married and settled there.
