Okay so I am trying to find out death information on my second great uncle named Olaf/Oluf Gilbertson born in Kandiyohi, Minnesota on August 5th 1885. Parents were Gulbrand Gulbrandsen (Gilbert Gilbertson) born March 18 1856 in kongsberg and Maren Marine Matthiasdatter ( Mary Gilbertson) born Jan 28 1857 in Våle parish. I have had a complete roadblock in finding any information on Olaf's death and I was just looking through the records I have saved for him and I have a record for his confirmation from the Lutheran Church but his name is crossed out on it. Can anybody help me find information on his death and does anybody know why his name would be crossed out?

Without seeing the confirmation it would be hard to judge but perhaps he didn't complete the process, or pastor was unhappy with his performance. Does it give a score?

Another possibility is that, since a lot of the pastors covered more than one church, maybe Olaf was supposed to be recorded in a different churches ledger?

Citing this Record

"United States Census, 1900," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M9V5-T28 : accessed 23 February 2019), Oluf Gilbertson in household of G Gilbertson, Logan & Norway Townships, Traill, North Dakota, United States; citing enumeration district (ED) 189, sheet 3A, family 42, NARA microfilm publication T623 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, 1972.); FHL microfilm 1,241,233.

Agewise, It appears that he was 1/2 of set of twins...except the person of the same years Chris was born in Norway and Oluf was born in Minnesota. There are lots of siblings in this family.

Maybe he didn't complete his confirmation learning because his family moved away during the cycle?

Well, this is the ND Public Death Index listing for an Olaf Gilbertson in Ward county, N.D.:
GILBERTSON, OLAF 06/29/1953 Ward MALE 67 Years 10/04/1885 North Dakota Ward

He lists his birthday as Aug 5th 1885 in his draft registration form. I wonder why it would be listed differently in the ND death index? Assuming that this is the same Olaf anyway... How do I upload pictures on here?

When he died, he was unable to give it, and they relied on a grief-striken or misinformed person for the information.

Get the ND death certificate, it's cheap either $5 or $8. Then you might satisfy your skepticism.

Generally, when information conflicts with other information, a record created for the purpose of that information (for instance a birth certificate for the facts about a birth), or a record created closer to the date of the event are given greater weight.

Someone else on forum might help you with posting as I've never done.
