I am looking for information about Martin Berg born March 11, 1816, in Norway (so written in Swedish records). He married Maja/Maria Hägglund in Sweden in 1845. They had several children. Some came to the US. I am helping the descendants of their son (Per) Herman Berg who married and settled in Iowa.
Martin Berg died July 4, 1908. Maria Sept. 19, 1906.

I would really like to find Martin's birth record so as to learn the identity of his parents. Any information about him or suggestions of where to look will be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks so much for all this information which supports what I found in the Swedish records. I found his SE incoming record and early HFL which show his birth date as March 10, not 11 like the later records. As we can see, March 10 is his baptism date. It's not uncommon to see the two confused.

If anyone is related to Martin Berg, please let me know. His son Per Herman came to the US and settled in Iowa. I can put you in touch with his great-grandchildren here in the US.

I asked the Research Librarian at the University of North Dakota to take a quick look at the Bygdebok for Grue that covers the area of the farms Bakken and Gotland. Here is his response.

"I found the family at the place Bakken under the main farm of Gotland in Grue. It mentions Martinus as a son of Berger Toreson, but there are no details as to what happened to Martinus."

I always find it useful to use the Bygedok for a Parish to see if further information can be found on an individual. In this case the important bit of info would be that he moved to Sweden. Alas not to be. You can contact Michael Swenson directly if you have any questions about the ancestors of Martinius Berg.
