Hello to the forum. I am pretty new to genealogy and Norwegian genealogy even more so. I have printed page upon page, and read so much my eyes are going cross. I have been learning a bit of Norwegian so that it makes it easier for me to translate parish records, but I am having a hard time with the Norwegian in some of the "Gothic" writing style. Even though I have printed pages with Nordic Gothic examples, I still cannot understand some pieces. Could you please help?
The first one I'm working on is a birth and baptism record for an ancestor in 1670-1671. My ancestor is on the left page, number 30. If the translating the three lines is too much, could you please help me with the mother's first name? I see that she is Rasmusdatter (Rasmus' daughter).

I have tried to add the direct link to the Norwegian digital archives. I hope it works because I'm not sure the image I was trying to put it would have worked (I didn't look like it was going to).
Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give. |

It appears to be the baptism celebrated on 26 Oct 1671 for a child Rasmus. Without studying a whole lot it appears that the mother's name is Synova, or Signora but I will leave that to others on site more versant than I. |

Kċarto, if you had been a fly on the wall (let's skip how weird it would be for you to be a fly and one on my wall), you would have seen my jaw drop . . . literally. Then you would have seen me excitedly going through the tree you linked me to. At first I was excited so see how far people on the site had gotten; then (and to warn you, I'm tooting my own horn), I was so proud how I followed my line correctly in a foreign language (for me) and in a handwriting I can barely read.
I had never heard of the site and probably would have never found them on my own. Thank you so much for the help. Have a great rest of your week!!! |
