In a city and in the late 1800s, the last name of Eriksen is more likely to say that the father's last name was also Eriksen, than to say that the father's first name was Erik. Here is a good candidate, then, born August 19th 1865 and baptised March 23d 1866:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070301670405
1865 census and 1875 census. Pupil at the Bergen Cathedral school from 1875 to 1878.
And the same boy (again matching date of birth) in the register for a military (navy) roll. I am not sure if the roll is availbale online, and it may not necessarily contain much information if he didn't in fact serve. |

Edvard Martin Eriksen the younger is not mentioned as surviving in the father Edvard Martin Eriksen's obit in 1900. Nor is he mentioned by name in the obit published on Sunni when she dies in San Diego California in 1909, except as fraverende brors "absentee brothers."
Sunniva Martens was granted an absolute divorce from her husband Henry J Martens in 1901. He was an artist. He deserted her in 1898 and left behind a note which mentioned his unhappiness. They met in Stockholm, according to the newspaper article titled "Did he commit Suicide?" Jersey City news. Monday, Mar 25, 1901 Jersey City, NJ Vol: 13 Issue: 3634 Page: 2 col 1. |

Good luck. I had a look at your tree at Ancestry, and noticed you have some "deep" branches in Bergen, containing, among others, members of the Giering family. This family appears to be connected with the Hanseatic Office, so sooner or later it should be explored at the www.hanseater.no website.
