Hans and henrikka are helminas parents. Ludvig, marius, hans, and mine are her siblings. She is would have been 24 at that time so she is possibly the one whose name is unclear |

There might be a connection between the list of those who left from the parish of Tune, Østfold in August of 1879 and the group that left Arendal in June of 1881.
Tune, Østfold Hans Larsen b 1825 Henrikke Hansdatter b1829 Marius b 1866 Mina Amalia b 1869 Hans Oskar b 1873
Helmine Petrine Hansdatter b 1858 Ludvig Hansen b 1863
Arendal, Aust-Agder Hans Larsen b 1827 Henrikke Larsen b 1829 Tobias Larsen b 1861 Ludvig Larsen b 1865 Marrius Larsen b 1869 Hans Larsen b 1873 Mina Larsen b 1871 Malvine b 1857
Malvine must be Helene Petrine.
So did they pick up her husband or future husband in Arendal. |

Here is the arrival of the group. Malvine is actually 10 years older than this list and must be Helene Petreine.

So you don't think that Tobias Andreas Tolfsen =Tobias Tolfson = Tobias Andrew Hanson ? Otherwise, there will be two, or more, Tobias' living in Polk, Pennington and Marshall counties, and the marriage found in MOMS between Tobias Tolfson and Petrine Hanson in Polk refers to some other couple?
Here is one piece of pretty strong circumstantial evidence that they are one and the same:
From the Warren Sheaf published 22 Feb 1900 in the Delinquent Taxes supplement in Viking Township T155 R45, Tobias Hanson is in arrears on se 1/4 ne 1/4 Lot 1 Sec 6
From the Warren Sheaf published 15 Feb 1894 Delinquent Tax List Viking Township Tobias Tollson is in arrears on seqr neqr Lot 1 Sec 6.
Same behavior / situation on the identical property 6 years apart.
Tobias Hanson's date of migration is kind of all over the board. The earliest is 1879 and the latest is 1887 from the various censuses. |

No I am fine with the Tobias being all those people. When I wrote the above I had forgotten your posting on the MOMS marriage records in Polk County. To much data for a small brain. |

Easy to do when names are similar and crammed into a space.
The date of arrival might be held in Tobias' naturalization records.
The vagaries of indexing are many.
The Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald reported on 11 July 1915 that on or about 10 July in Crookston Minnesota, 17 people were made US citizens. One of those listed is Tobias A Hanson.
All of the Tobias Hansons found at the Iron Range Interpretive site are these: HANSON TOBIAS HENNEPIN HANSON TOBIAS ROCK HANSON TOBIAS RENVILLE HANSON TOBIAS ROCK
These are all the Tobias of any last name found in Polk county: EIDINSON TOBIAS POLK JOHNSON TOBIAS POLK JOHNSON TOBIAS POLK OLSON TOBIAS POLK OLSON TOBIAS POLK TALEAR TOBIAS POLK THOMPSON TOBIAS POLK TOLLSEN TOBIAS POLK TOLLSEN TOBIAS POLK TOSTENSON TOBIAS POLK TOSTENSON TOBIAS POLK TOSTENSON TOBIAS POLK VALEAR TOBIAS POLK VALEAR TOBIAS POLK
And all Tobias of any last name in Marshall county are this: TOLLSON TOBIAS MARSHALL
And then there is this rather unique spelling: HANSEN TOBEAS ANDREW POLK
The Iron Range database are those from Federal records. Of course state courts and county courts can also issue naturalization records. |

The Warren Sheaf reported in either 1894 or 1900 that there was a new post office planned and it was to be called Viking and Tobias Hanson was to be the postmaster.
Today in Ancestry saw a database titled US, Appointments of US Postmasters 1832-1971 and there was the Viking post office with Tobias Hanson appointed 2 Aug 1890 and the next postmaster was Morris Hanson appointed 21 June 1891, none that I saw after that. |

I want to thank you all for your suggestions, time, interest and help. I have a lot more to go on now. Re posts: 1) about edvard hansen..it was in trying to verify that he was in my family that i found this forum. And then the dna confirmed a connection. 2) the group that left the parish in 1879 was, from my research, tobias’s wifes family ( again confirmed connections through dna). They all came to America in 1881, and he apparently came along with them listed as Tobias Larsen. 3) the suggestion that he and Tobias Tollson were one and the same warrents looking into. I did find that one of Tolf And Anne Maries children was born in norway and died in Crookston. Minnesota. Crookston is where Tobias moved to after his first wife died. He and his second wifeJulia bought a house there and proceeded to raise the kids and live out the rest of their life there. The 3 sons came to the west coast in their 20’s (one of them my grandfather ) and the daughter stayed in the midwest. 4) i have already been in contact with warren county and they can research the land records. That will help regarding the piece of land which both tollson and hanson owned. 5) I also learned about how to access these other data bases for information through this forum. I will be working on that and perhaps i can get the birth certificate.
So again thank you all. And please dont hesitate to contact me with any further suggestions

Also the information about the postmaster assignment is like gold for me...i know about his later years but would never have known this about early years in the US. My family was very interested to hear this. |

From an actual record or just a mention on a family tree database? |
