On behalf of a good friend who is looking for information on relatives which with a modern language went to America on a shortstay work visa to earn money to invest at home. My friend is looking for information about their whereabouts and specially where and for whom they worked.

1 Gunnar Einarsen Hugaas, born 14.04.1871 in Selbu municipality, Norway. No informatioan on his departure, arrival or stay other than he worked as a farmhand probably in Minnesota, Illinios or adjacent states.

2 Paul Einarsen Dragsjø, born 1869 in Selbu municipality, Norway. His family name could have been Dragsjøen and Dragstsjø but in all cases most likely anglicised to Dragsjo, Dragstsjoen or Dragsjoen. Immigration wrote his name as Draxjø at the card at departure. Paul told immigration in Norway that his destination was Minneapolis, Minnesota and left on June 12, 1907

3 John Einarsen Dragsjø, born 05.02.1879 in Selbu municipality, Norway. For his family name goes the same as for Paul. John told to the immigration that his destination was Grove city, Minnesota and left Norway on April 7, 1903

Here is a person in Meeker County in the 1895 Minnesota State Census. His name in the transcribed record does not look much like what I see in the original record. There is looks to me like it could be Gunder Hougas or close to that

Hello Lyndal! I just talked with my friend and based on the birth of his first child on July 24, 1903 he must have returned to Norway in 1902 according to him. In 1904 he bought a farm for the money he earned in America so definitely before 1904. Hope this will help.

My friend came up with the possibility that he might have commuted until 1912 after his last child was born. He had several children and there is a wide gap between them but as messages are pouring in here from him he now believes he returned most likely in 1902 or 1904.

The find above for Gunnar in Meeker County in the 1895 Minnesota Census looks more promising when you also look at the people living on that same farm in the 1900 US Census. Here is a screen shot of the members of the farm. The last person is a G Heau? with a birth date of April 1871.

Here is a screen shot of the occupants of the farm.

Here is the transcribed record. Transcriber gave a last name of Hanson.

G Hanson
in the 1900 United States Federal Census
Name: G Hanson
Age: 29
Birth Date: Apr 1871
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1900: Acton, Meeker , Minnesota
Sheet Number: 3
Number of Dwelling in Order of Visitation: 37
Family Number: 37
Race: White
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1892
Relation to Head of House: Servant
Marital status: Single
Father's Birthplace: Norway
Mother's Birthplace: Norway
Years in US: 8

Servant likely in this case means farm hand.

He left Norway under the name of Gunar Einers. Solem in 1892 which also matches up well with the 1900 US Census Record above. And he was also going to Grove City Minnesota which is in Meeker County, Minnesota.
