Ancestry has quite a few Carl / Charles Ross coming to New York. Perhaps Karl Fredrik Ross was a commuter? |

So Karl Fredrick and Helga are both in New York in 1910: Name: Helga Ross Census Year: 1910 Gender:Female Age: 38 Marital Status: Married Race: White Relationship: Wife Husband: Charles F Ross Residence: Brooklyn Ward 30, Kings, New York, United States Birthplace: Norway Birth Year: 1872 Household Members:Name Age Charles F Ross 40
They live at 734 53rd Street. His entry says that he migrated in 1901 and is an alien. He is a carpenter building docks.
In 1920 here is Helga Ross: Name:Helga H Ross Census Year: 1920 Gender: Female Age: 47 Marital Status: Widowed Race: White Relationship: Head Residence: Richmond Lee Ward, Richmond (Independent City), Virginia, United States Birthplace: Norway Birth Year: 1873 Household Members: Name Age Woodrow Ross 7 George W Deets 32 Alvera K Deets 23 Frank D Deets 5
It says Helga came to US in 1907 and is naturalized . The relationships with the rest of the family are a bit garbled. George Deets is called "mother-in-law" and I suspect the correct term is son-in-law. Alvera Deets is called mother and I think she is Karl's and Helga's daughter. It says she came to US in 1908, status is not clearly listed. Frank Deets is listed as grandson born in Pennsylvania as is George Deets. Both of Frank Deets' parents birthplaces are listed as Pennsylvania. Woodrow is listed as son and born in Virginia.
On this trip from Norway in 1916, this Alvera's home is listed as in America: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/8/pe00000000326049
Name: Alvira Ross Arrival Date: 23 Mar 1916 Birth Date: abt 1896 Last Permanent Address: Nrw Other Last Permanent Address: Arendal Hollen Age: 20 Gender: Female Ethnicity/ Nationality: Scandinavian Port of Departure: Kristiansand, Southern Norway Port of Arrival: New York, New York, USA Ship Name: United States
The relative she's leaving behind is her brother Harald Ross and the relative she is going to his her father Fredrik Ross who lives at 5309 7th Avenue Brooklyn.
Here is an Alvira Christenson leaving Arendal going to US in 1906.: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/8/pe00000000301201
Here is an Arnold Ross going to US in 1913: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/8/pe00000000324126
Here is his arrival information: Name: Arnold Barthold Ross Arrival Date: 16 Sep 1913 Birth Date: abt 1894 Last Permanent Address: Norway Other Last Permanent Address: Tredestrand Age: 19 Gender: Male Ethnicity/ Nationality: Scandinavian Port of Departure: Kristiansand, Southern Norway Port of Arrival: New York, New York, USA Ship Name: United States
His relative left in Norway was his grandmother Birgitta Jonasen and the relative in US he's going to is his father Fredrik Ross
Looks like 3 of the children of Helga and Karl Fredrik listed as pleiebarn in 1910 census, with their maternal grandparents!: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01036543005823 |

That's my Amandus. I've never seen this record before. It means a lot. Thank you. That middle name kills me though. |

To husband Charles Charesen something 48 Brooklyn

That could be Sackett St. 48 - Brooklyn. It's across the street from the docks which seems very Norwegian. |

Even though Helga is listed as widow in 1920, Carl Fredrik seems to be alive and well, living in Brooklyn with another woman and his son Arnold. As far as I can see, all data match for father and son.
But again his immigration year i given as 1901, providing him with a clear alibi in the paternity case? |

You would have to do the "nasty math" and figure when Amandus was conceived and then compare to Carl's moments of arrival and departure. The trip across is about two weeks.
Calling Helga a widow in 1920 might be a function of the uninformed way the Richmond census was done. |
