There are several interesting postings here with accounts of the inland voyages - but unfortunately most of them are filled with stale links.

I'd be especially interested in an updated link to the article 'Concerning Emigration' written by John A. Johnsen. I've searched the NAHA web site without any luck.

Yes, unfortunately that is a problem in general on the web. You never know how long a website will stay alive, or how long before content is deleted. Considering that the Norway-Heritage forum was started 20 years ago it is not surprising that many external links will be "dead" by now, or put behind payment gateways.

I'm very sorry. I should have worded that differently. My intention was not to criticize NorwayHeritage. I was just trying to explain why I was requesting a link to a document that is referenced in several other postings. My apologies.

In case you are not aware, an article with this author and title was published in Norwegian-American Studies in 1992. It is not available online for free, but it should be posdible to find a library with access: Link

It seems their archive are temporarily closed due to COVID-19. You should question them about the article; https://naha.stolaf.edu/contact/

This article was published serially in Norwegian language in a publication called Billed-Magazin printed in Chicago on 23 Jan, 30 Jan, 6 Feb, 13 Feb, 13 Mar, 20 Mar 1869. So there is another source if you are able to read the original Norwegian.

Otherwise in English, it is in the hardcover volume 33 of Norwegian-American Studies published by the Norwegian-American Historical Association 1992 written by John A. Johnson (J.A. Johnsen Skibnæs) as translated by C.A. Clausen. Did you ever get any response from NAHA directly?

Thanks for your kind help. I'm awaiting a response from NAHA.

I've tried JSTOR, but am unable to get a hold of the article through my library, which doesn't seem to have the necessary functionality in place for a download from JSTOR.

I can read Norwegian.

"Problem" solved!
NAHA sent me the article - excellent service, I must say.
And thanks to all of you on this topic for helping out.
