I need to locate Diaries, Surgeons' Reports, Logs etc which may give me information on births and deaths on the following voyages: 1. City of Washington, Liverpool to New York departing 25 May 1859 - I'm interested in the THEXTON family. 2. Rimutaka, Auckland New Zealand to Plymouth Great Britain, departing 6 May 1886. I'm interested in the STOREY. GANE and LITCHFIELD families. Do these documents survive - and if so, where are they held? Thanks for your help. HELBEL

Passenger manifests for arriving ships in 1859 New York are available for free online searching. I found a list for the City of Washington arriving there 7 Jun 1859 on LDS microfilm online. Familysearch.org -- Catalog search -- New York Emigration and Immigration, LDS film 0175548> frames 463-470. I briefly scanned through those pages and didn't note anyone listed as Thexton - but my eyes are not as good as they once were so you will want to do a more careful search yourself. The originals of the passenger manifest arriving in US are held by the US National Archives. |
