| Hi Stef, on this thread - I’m a relation of Anders brother, Adam Niels Larsen. I was just wondering how you went on your search? We are seeking some more information on his brother Adam. We have done some DNA testing and some exploratory research. I was not sure if Andrew was aware of Adam or if you may have any details on him? Our Adam lived a mysterious life - any insights you may know would be warmly appreciated. |

None of the records that I have seen on Ancestry.com refer to him as any other name than George Adam Smith and none of them have a full birth date for him. The earliest record appears to be his arrival. He is listed as a 4th engineer on the ship Jeseric.

Query to Gemini AI finds this
The Jeseric was a 4,816-ton steel steamship built in 1902. She was an important part of the Scottish tramp and cargo fleet operated by Andrew Weir & Co. (later known as the Bank Line). The ship was actively used on global trade routes in the early 20th centur
Historical shipping logs show George Edward Smith was a crew member on the Jeseric in 1905.According to official maritime records from May 1905, he arrived in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, aboard the vessel. The Jeseric was traveling from the port of Kuchinotsu, Japan, under the command of Master W. Shotton.
Crew Profile DetailsPosition: 4th EngineerAge at Voyage: 30 years oldPlace of Birth/Residence: Newcastle on Tyne, England
The original transcribed crew manifest can be viewed through the Mariners and Ships in Australian Waters database, which indexes 19th and early 20th-century shipping arrivals.
Context of the 1905 VoyageAs a 4th Engineer, Smith would have been responsible for managing the ship's massive propulsion systems, boilers, and auxiliary mechanical equipment.
At 4,816 gross registered tons, the Jeseric was a large steamship for its era, requiring a skilled engineering crew to complete long-haul transpacific journeys like the route from Japan to Australia. |
