I have been working on my family tree of several years and have run into a problem locating information on the father of Ole Johnsen Solberg. Borne 25 October 1821 Lenstranden, death approximately 1900. Married to Martha Lorentze Ronning 1811-1859. I have found a individual John Saelberg as Ole's father but no other information. I have run into a brick wall.

Any help or information would be appreciated.

You do run into problems in the 1801 Census trying to determine who is the parent of Ulrikke. There are three Ole's of the approximate right age living on Gietlein in the 1801 Census. So which one of the three is the father is difficult to know with out searching in a bygdebok and perhaps seeing there what Ole is the father of Ulrikke.

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058447002669 for Ole Erichsen born about 1781.

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058447002676 for Ole Erichsen born about 1773

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058447002681 for Ole Rasmussen born about 1767

There is no farm named Eid listed for the 1801 Census for Melhus. The only person of interest in the 1801 Census is Jon Olsen born in 1797 living on Søelberg. Father is Ole Henrichsen. Again it is difficult to tell if this is your John Olsen or not.

Thank you so much for all of he information. Yesterday I figured out that they dropped John Olsen's last name (Solberg) on several records. Even though I've been working on this for over a year, I am still a beginner discovering new web sites to research. My main problem, I can't read Norwegian.

Again, thank you so much for your assistance!

You are not necessarily looking at the right farm here. The transcription Gietlein from the baptism is a mystery, and there are other possibilities than Giellen. At her 1825 marriage, Ulrikke's domicile is given as Gelein. (More modern spellings of this farm name are Gellein and Jellein, and older ones are Gelehen and Gelejn.) Now at the 1801 census there are some other likely candidates for the right Ole at the Gelejn farm. (Ole Ellevsen, Ole Andersen and Ole Ejnersen.)

There is a bygdebook for Leinstrand in two volumes, published in 1957 and 1958, but it does not seem very complete. It is available in searchable form form online for Norwegian IP-addresses, and there is no Ulrikke or Ulrikka mentioned in the books.

My guess is that this is Jon Olsen Solberg in 1801, 4 years old and living on "Søelberg."
