1. In general, I am trying to understand the farm naming, specifically øvre, nedre and u. I sometimes cannot find the names in Oluf Rygh, and I get thoroughly confused on how to record the locations. I do understand that many, if not all, are huusmandsplads and may not be in Rygh.
2. Specifically, I am currently looking at Rønningen u Verpe, which I believe is in Bø i Telemark, and Moen u Myrene, either in Bø or Seljord.
3. I have a person who was born at Rønningen, which is shown in both his baptism record (as Rønningen) and his burial record (as u Verpe), but his baptismal record is found in Seljord, not Bø. The year is 1822. My question ... why would they record in a different parish than they lived?
Any clarifications or explanations on naming, etc. would be much appreciated. |

Do you have a link to the baptismal record from Seljord?
Rønningen was a subfarm under the bigger farm Verpe

Doesn't it seem obvious that some mistakes have been made in the death/burial entry. The birth is recorded in Seljord parish book because that was the location of the birth
.Sometime later in life the subject moves from Seljord to Bø.
The death entry is recorded in Bø. and the name of the farm listed with his name appears as a farm there in other sources. But the entries in the columns to the right appear to be.containing information which is wrong. It is not obvious whether these errors are caused by the person writing the entry or someone who is reporting the information to the writer.
Humans make mistakes...

I do know that after the death of his wife, he and his family moved to Stykke (Stykket) which is the name the family used for the remainder of time. I believe the birth recorded in Seljord is correct, given the names of his parents. Aslak's first daughter's name was Daardi, after his mother. Other farms he has been associated with are Soterud (at the time of his marriage) and Moen u Myrene (1865 census). It was after 1865 that he moved to Stykke. Thank you for the help that you have offered. |
