Back again, this time I’m trying to find the immigration records for Christian Olsen Hovland’s wife, Eli Olsdatter Gumpholen. I would have included them in the same post except I didn’t want it to get too long.

Eli (1873-1933) was born in Svatsum, Vestre Gausdal, Oppland, Norway. This area is near Lillehammer. She is said to have immigrated sometime between 1890-1892, according to census records, and she married in 1893 to Christ in the US, which means she came over separately. Eli may or may not have immigrated with her mother, Anne Olsdatter Kleven (1845-1927).

Good work, I think this is right Anton! The age matches, the dates of departure and arrival match for the Thingvalla, and it even says in her departure from Oslo that her destination is Hendrum, MN! That’s where she lived with her family in MN. The one thing I find curious is that her mother didn’t come with.

It’s funny you sent this just now, jwiborg, because I was actually just researching Anne Kleven. I actually just came to the same conclusion as you, that she sailed on the “Norge” in 1898. Thanks for confirming my research!
