Hello,
I would like to reapproach the search for Even Olsen, but a little bit differently than usual. Here are all the Sponsors/Witnesses from the 7 Baptism Entries, and below I have tried to transcribe them. If you could help me try to read the names and Farm names, I would much appreciate that!
Each Baptism Record is also attached to their Family Search here, See Page 6 in this thread: http://www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7347&whichpage=6
Possible Even Olsen, See Page 1 in this thread: http://www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7347

Thank you. I was really hoping to get anywhere with it, but it appears that you all were right all along and that Even Olsen is the only plausible candidate here. I had hoped I could disprove it, but I can't. |

Generally, one hopes with knowing the names of the faddere that there will be relatives amongst them or a repetition of certain names between the many baptisms that might reveal "invisible" threads.
Well, it doesn't appear that any of the surviving siblings or parents of Even Olsen ever served as sponsors (faddere, godparents) of his children. It appears in most cases that the godparents were of his class (husmand, eie ejet suffix on the farm name) and of the specific farms he was husmand on at the time of the baptism.
The eldest daughter Aase Mathea did service for the baptism of one of her younger siblings.
Another deeper dive would be to find if Even served any of his relatives' baptisms or just who Even might have served in that capacity. Along those same lines, to find if Even ever served as "best man" or bondsman for any other marriages. |

Hello,
Here I am once again. So I have connected most of my DNA matches, but 45 DNA matches of my granduncle are not connected to any line. Therefore they could very likely be on the same line as Peter and Even Olsen. I am yet to make a DNA connection through Peter or his Ancestors.
Out of the 45 DNA matches, I was able to link 12 DNA matches to Isabelle Anderson and Johanna Anderson. Their parents are supposed to be Andrew and Maria (Mary) Anderson. Anna Anderson is supposedly the sister of Isabelle and her Obituary is the second attachment. Someone listed Andrews' Birthday as 29 Sep 1820 to Anders Olsen and Annie Asselson in Norway and someone else listed Mary as Mary Johannesdtr born 22 Mar 1817 to Johannes Olsen and Ingeborg Larsdatter in Ostfold, Norway. Mary and Andrew aren't Norwegian names, so I don't trust that research much, but want to provide that extra information. Additionally someone listed a Marriage of 11 Jul 1847 in Norderhov between Anders Andersen (Andrew) and Mari Johannesdatter.
I dug a bit around Andrew Anderson and Mary, and their parents may be Olsen/Olsdatter and they also may be from Norderhov, but most of it was just a biased try of mine to connect them in any way possible. Perhaps someone can finally make a connection between Even Olsen and maybe this DNA line.

Mari Johannesdatter b 1816 parents are Johannes Olsen and Ingebor Olsdatter. Story and lineage of them are found in Gards og Slektshistorie for Flå i Hallingdal Bind I under a farm named Mellom Tonga or Monse Tonga page 541.
Ingeborg Olsdatter was born on Mellom Tonga in 1779. Her parents are Ola Olson from Gulsvik born abt 1745 died 1807. Ola Olsen married 1778 Birgit Torkjellsdatter (also called Berit Trulsdatter in various records) from ovre Tongo b.1744 d 1817. Ingeborg is the only listed child..
Ingeborg's father Ola Olsen's parents are a man named Ola Eivindsen (Evensen) no dates and Ingeborg Monsdatter from Monseplassen under Stavn. .Ola Olsen was an illegitimate child. But his parents married about 1749.
Ingeborg Monsdatter was born1711 and died after 1764. Information on her and her birth family are found in Gards og Slektshistorie for Flå i Hallingdal Bind IV page 724 under Monseplassen.
Ola Eivindsen was born 1718 and died 1757. His information is found in Gards og Slektshistorie for Flå i Hallingdal Bind III page870.
Birgit Torkjellsdatter's parents are Torkjell Olsen b 1708 d 1783 and Anne Torsdatter from Buoen b 1706 d abt 1771. Their story is found on page 475-476 in Flå 1, the same book cited before.
ingeborg married Johannes Olsen in 1804. They had at least four children a Mari born 1805 who died 1808, an Ole born 1806 who died 1809, an Ole born 1812 and Mari born 1816. They lived at Tonga until about 1820 and there is no other advance on the children nor death dates for the parents.
Johannes Olsen was born 1770 and his parents are Ola Olsen from Olasgarden Gulsvik b 1719 d abt 1774 and Mari Johannesdatter b 1727 d 1801 thought to be from Vestre Golberg in Gol. This information comes from Gards og Slektshistorie for Flå i Hallingdal Bind ii page 142-143 under a farm called Vesle Gandrud.
A good many of these lines can be advanced in the bydeboker of Flå.

I do not share any DNA with them, but my granduncle (same line), shares between 8cM to 47cM, so 4th - 6th cousin.
Descendants of a brother or sister of Peter Evensen would be 3rd cousins, of Even Olsen they would be 4th cousins.
I (my DNA) have connected to a lot of other DNA matches below 47cM to my Family Tree.
For example, one 3rd cousin at 41cM DNA. A 4th cousin at 31cM. A 5th cousin at 25cM and with the mother to a 6th cousin at 11cM.
The point is, I think there is great potential to make a connection and maybe solve this puzzle. These matches aren't coming from Mattie's side, as I have matched with about 30 DNA matches there. |

Hey Jackie!
I am so sorry, I hadn't seen the other responses, so I only responded to one. I am not sure why I did not see them, but after adding most of your entries, I finally looked at the Anne Tostensdatter entry.
We have Aase Tostensdatter Skinneseie born Sep 1781 on Skinneseie, Krødsherad, died 26 Aug 1861 in Nymoen, Lunder, Ringerike.

14 Nov 1860 looks right. 45 years old; that suggests a baptism around 1815. Here is one; son Even born to Ole Evensen and Aasa Torkelsdatter at Tranbye-eie on April 13 1815:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/255/pd00000039161543
A plausible candidate, as your Even's oldest daughter was named Aase.
And this looks like the same person's confirmation record in 1830, even if the age is a little off, as is his mother's name: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070314630037 (No. 2)
The mother's patronymic In the original baptism record is barely readable, and could as well be Tostensdatter, as is written in the confirmation record. This is also what we find in the Geni profile: https://www.geni.com/people/Even-Olsen-Tranbyeiet/6000000000944963890?through=6000000000944963862
- Aasa is listed to be christened on 30 Sep 1781 in Krødsherad and listed as daughter of Tosten Gunbjørnsen Rishovdeie (b Abt. 1754 - d 1801) and Guri Reiulfsdatter Rishovdeie (b Abt. 1747 - d 1801). - Here is the record for Aase from the Family Tree: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NHP2-TPY
- Maybe Gundbiorn, a brother? https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NHP2-JF9
- Tosten Gunbiornsen/Guri Reiulsdr Marriage? in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NWW3-VYV - Tosten Gunbjørnsen Death Entry?: Birth Year 1750 Burial Date 04-01-1810 Sigdal/Krydsherred https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/267/pg00000001879724
- And a record in 1801 Norway Census, but no Anne and no Aase Tostensdatter https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-L3V2-K9GL?cc=3733603&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3A8Y99-LD2M
- If Anne was 82 at her death, that would put her at 1778 right? I can't find an entry for Anne!
Did you solve the puzzle? If this entry would be correct, all research we done would all be correct as well.
I think in Anders Andersen's entry I am reading Rishovdeie? I am so excited right now!
All the DNA matches above were with Ancestry.com
I just made a DNA match through MyHeritage named Bjerke! The family tree above is from what would be the father of my 6th cousin. Jackie, after over 3 years, you finally solved the mystery!
Can we still find the entry for Anne, so that I could add the other 12? |
