My Great Great Grandfather, Anders Jenssen Stageberg came to America in 1875. The older Digitalarkivet record lists Bergen as departure on May 4 1875 on the line Norske. Can't seem to find a ship and there is no destination listed. Any way to find out where a ship leaving that day from Bergen would end up? Thanks.... Vicky King

The current transcription at Digitalrkivet says Anders Jenssen Skogeberg. Probably a misreading. I suppose this has something to do with Ståggåberget in Stjørdal?

The departure date provided in the transcript at Digitalarkivet is misleading — it actually refers to the date the contract was signed. They likely departed several days later. My best estimate is that they sailed on the S/S St. Olaf from Bergen on May 15th, arriving in New York on June 2nd: http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=stolb

Yes, he was from Stjordal and the family lived on the Stageberg farm prior to coming over. They eventually dropped the first part and became "Berg's'. He wasn't Anders L. he was Anders J. (for Jens), but I am not sure the record has an L either. So, Bergen to New York, then he ended up here in Minnesota. He died in Pettibone, N.D. and was in an unmarked grave when I tracted him. Until his great great granddaughter had a stone marker placed there. Everyone deserves a marker! Thank you all! Vicky Berg King
