Hi!
I am trying to locate my father-in-law's grand uncle, who emigrated from Norway in 1904. I've found him in Digitalarkivet. His name was Alfred Johannesen, he left 22.april, 1904 on the Montebello line.

I've tried to locate the Montebello line, but all I find is the ship Montebello, which belongs to the Wilson Line of Hull. The agent is not listed, unfortunately.

Alfred noted "Canada" on the destination, so I was wondering whether he went there. I also don't know if Canada was the final destination or whether it was just a transit for him on his way to the US. Any help to advance from here is greatly appreciated!

There was no "Montebello Line", it must have been the S/S Montebello of the Wilson Line.

On our Kristiania - Kristiansand - Hull, 1904 sailing list we have the Montebello listed with an arrival from Kristiania on April 22nd. The Digitalarkivet have listed the ships in the "Line" column, which is a little confusing. The name of the agent, or line is actually listed in the original source, but was not transcribed for the online version at Digitalarkivet for all years, so you should check the original source.

Hi!

Thanks for informative answer! I'll try to check out the original sources for the shiplists.

Does it exist a list of "transits" in Hull? "Our" Alfred gave up Canada as his destination, but I guess many emigrants used Canada as a transit point to enter the US as well. Any tips on where I can gather information about departures from Hull and immigrants to Canada?

Best,
Jon-Inge

There are no lists in Hull. Really, you just have to find the name of the agent or Line first. Let us know what you find and we will tell you what to do next.

OK, thanks a lot! I'll start digging at this end then, and come back when I found that!

Hello again!
I've been away from genealogy for some time, but picking up the thread again. The agent seems to be
H. Heitmann - H. Heitmann & Søn
and the line is obviously the Wilson Line.

Is it possible to find registers from this agent anywhere?

Thanks,
Jon-Inge

It's been too long... I'm a step behind myself from last year.

Obviously the agent must have been Heitman and the line the Wilson, but I haven't yet succeeded in getting a transcription of the emmigration record, which means that I don't know the name of the agent for the transatlantic voyage. From what I see, it could have been Bennet, but then, it could possibly be another as well.

Sorry for the mixup. Will continue searching.

Best,
Jon-Inge
