Nils was born in Onso Oct 1854 and came to South Australia about 1885. I am searching for his emigration information - ship, arrival date.
He is listed on Norway 1865 and 1875 Census - in 1885 listed as seaman.

Here is his profile in s Fredrikstad sailors' roll. The last entry is from 1891, unfortunately hard to decipher. There is also something about jumping ship (rømt) in Dublin in 1879.

Nils Petter Emil Kristiansen applied for citizenship in Australia in 1892 and stated he had been living in South Australia for 7 years so his arrival must be around 1885.

I could find more candidates fairly easily but there is not a good way to sort out the right person from any another candidate who would not be the right guy.

Immigration to Australia in February of '91 seems too early. The date of jumping ship in Dublin is given as i/4 79. Despite the mysterious "i", I take this to be some time in April, since all dates are written in the day/month format.

There are two entries for dates in '91. The first is 25/7. I can't read everything here, but judging from some of the words it COULD be about paying a fine of 10 kroner for having lost his sailor's patent.
The other date is 11/8. The text here looks like it could be "anmeldt at reise til Utlandet for at fare derfra"; declared to travel abroad to sail from there.

The reason many Norwegian sailors jumped ship, was the difference in pay; British and American ships often paid quite a bit more.
