I am looking for help finding immigration information on this family. Arndt is my great great grandfather. The US 1880 census has him and his family living in Onalaska Wi. His birth place is shown as Norway, Rognhajen, Rana, I believe. His birth date is
12 Oct 1942. The records I have found show both is father and mother, Anne Andersdatter Almlia passed away in Norway.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thank you very much AntonH. The additional last names of Storaltern and Sholten baffle me. But it looks like this is the guy. I will go through the sources you have provided to fill in some blanks on my tree. You have taken me to school, I appreciate it.

Storalteren is a farm name that is attached to your family because they lived, owned, rented or had some relationship with the farm which is probably also called Stor-Altern. There is a Family Tree on Ancestry.com that lists the father of Arndt as.

Lars Andreasen
BIRTH ABT. 1809 • Stor-Alteren, Rana, Nordland, Norway
DEATH Unknown

You will find this list of farm names for Mo Parish, Nordland, Norway Genealogy in Family Search. One of the many names is , Stor-Alteren, .

https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Mo_Parish,_Nordland,_Norway_Genealogy

Sholten may very well just be a mis-read

When you get far enough back in time the families start popping up in Geni.com a fairly respectable Family Tree. More work to be done.

Lars Andreason (Båsmo) Icn_world
Norwegian: Lars Andreassen (Båsmo)
Gender: Male
Birth: 1808
Båsmoen, Mo, Nord-Rana, Nordland, Norge (Norway)
Death: April 13, 1874 (65-66)
Rognhåjen, Stor-Alteren, Mo, Nord-Rana, Nordland, Norge (Norway)
Place of Burial: Mo, Nord-Rana, Nordland, Norge (Norway)
Immediate Family:
Son of Andreas Andersen, Båsmoen and Marith Nielsdatter, Båsmoen
Husband of Anne Abelone Arentsdatter and Karen Karstensdatter
Father of Arnt Larsen; Gjertrud Marie Larsdatter Rognhaug; Marianne Larsdatter; Kirsten Larsdatter; Jensine Larsdatter and 1 other
Brother of Johannes Andreassen; Per Andreassen; Niels Andreassen; Rakel Andreasdatter; Tomas Andreassen and 2 others

https://www.geni.com/people/Lars-Andreason/6000000001655531380?through=6000000011016565487

It seems that the route I was taking differs here with the route of the Geni.com Tree.

Need to spend some time tomorrow sorting out which tree fits
