Hi Ann Are you sure he was born in Norway? I didn't find any Ferguson's in the 1900 census on the Digitalarkivet. As to Croggin, if it was written in America it is probably a "sounds like" spelling so it could be spelled very differently in Norway. This site has a list of a lot of places in Norway. Some possibilities are Kroken, Krokane, Krognes. http://www.calle.com/world/norway/index.html Carla |

Turkerson could be Torkelson, Torgleson, Torkilson, or other variation. I didn't find anything that matched though. Ulga would be Olga in Norway. For Croggin the best guess is Kroken in Drangevald Telemark. If you haven't already you should try and get as much info in the US as you can, naturalization papers, marriage license, death certificate, all could give some clues. Find him on the US census which could give you the year he immigrated. There is always the possibility he didn't stow away and could be on a ship list or if it is before 1900 you would know not to look on the 1900 census in Norway. If you wanted to take a shot at Kroken being correct you could rent the microfilm for Kirkebøker (parish registers) døpte (baptism registers)through the LDS for Drangedal prestegjeld, Telemark, Norway http://www.familysearch.org and try and find him. It is in Norwegian so reading about it at this site should help. Also, in Norway the dates are listed day/month/year. (gets confusing sometimes) http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/index.html Carla |
