I just found this site. It appears to be just what I need to find my great grandfather's sailing records. He was born on Hettervik Island near Stavanger, I think, in 1853. He became a sailor at 15 or 16 and sailed around the Horn, South America, seven times. He was let off in Trinidad Northern California, in the early 1880's where he spent the rest of his life and raised a family of seven girls and three boys. We recently met our first cousins, Hettervik and Steinvik, (my spelling may be wrong). I am interested in finding Christian's sailing records. It is not in the digital archives from Stavanger. This is a great site and I will keep posted on what is new here.

Regards,
Bob Baker

My great-grandfather, Paul Paulsen (Hettervig)was a brother to your grandfather. Your great-grandfather met my mom's sister, Muriel, while he was still alive in Northern California. My mom is Vivian Jean Hettervig Christopherson. Her father was Melvin Johan Hettervig.

Sincerely, Valerie Jean Kolle Anthony
