In my search for my family history I have learned that Norway is one of the most wonderful places in the world. I am trying to find the records od my ancestor Kristen Ingebregtsen, born in 1840. On the 1875 census he was listed as living in Alesund at 1501 Buholmstrand in a house owned by Peter Jacobsen. he was married to Lorense Nilsdatter and had 4 sons living with them at that time.
Kristen's Birth Place is listed as Skaue Prgj. Vatne S. I know that Prgj. must be an abbeviation for prestegjeld (parish), but I cannot seem to locate a Skaue parish.
Can anyone help?

I think this must be Skoue Prgj. as the are no such prestegjeld as Skaue in the area. This could be Kristen in the 1865 census.

Thank you for the help on the prestegjeld! Wow, this is amazing! I am sure that the Kristen on the 1865 census is my Kristen because we know that he worked as a servant in a "Johnsen" household before he was married.
Do you know what the "Vatne S." stands for, and where I might be able to locate this Skoue Prestegjeld in order to get copies of the record's for Kristen and his family?
I cannot begin to tell you how appreciative I am for the help, this has been a very difficult search. I am going to sign up to help with the work this site is doing so that I might be able to help someone else out too.

Vatne was the name of the "Sogn" - "Parish" one of several under the clerical district "Skoue Prestegjeld". This is in Møre og Romsdal, Skoue is now called Skodje.
