Kathy, I am interested in your info on the name Trostad. My husband's family was from the Kjæfjord in the North. The family name was Pedersen, but took Trostad as their surname from the small town of Tråstad. My husband and I have visited there. We have known of others with the surname in N. Dakota, so I am interested in others with this suname. Thank you. Kathi Trostad

Hi Kathy,
I have a question about Trostad. Is this the same as Tråstad?
I have family from the Skjåk, Oppland, Norway area and the wife, Synne Jonsdtr, is from "Tråstad". This is the first I've heard of that name and I'm wondering exactly where it is. What county? Near what town, etc. I would assume it is somewhere near lom/skjak in oppland as your email suggests because that is where the family lived.

Is trostad/Tråstad a town or a farm?

The information I am basing this on is from ...
"I have the Ættebok for Skjåk which traces the families there. I find a Jon Toresen, bapt 25 Jan 1810. His father was Tore Olsen. Tore was married to Synne Jonsdtr. Tråstad. The other siblings of Jon are:"
Ola, bapt 11 Aug 1805
Anne, born 8 Aug 1817
Magnhild, born 8 Sep 1807
Per, born 19 Nov 1814
Ola, born 11 Mar 1820
They are under tha farm name Aanstad, søndre.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Ann

Hi,
Tråstad and Trostad must be the same farm. The norwegian spelling today would be Tråstad, but the 1865-census has the farm listed as Traastad.

Actually there are two farms; Tråstad øver (T. upper) and Tråstad nedre (T. lower).
The farms are situated in Skjåk, Oppland county.

There is no big cities in the area. The area is in the upper left corner of Oppland county

A few hours drive by car south-west of Trondheim.

I'm from Skjak, Oppland county, Gudbrandsdalen region, Norway where the Trastad (Traastad) farms are located. Please ask any question. I can do look ups.

In Google, you will find a bunch of Trastad profiles by this search:

site:geni.com traastad OR trastad

Warm regards,
