In 1870 the ship Edda of Sandefjord departed from Christiania on Apr. 15th, and arrived at Quebec June 6th. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 306 steerage passengers and 7 cabin passengers. When they arrived to the quarantine station at Grosse Īle there was measles aboard, the passengers were landed, seven were sick. There had been one death on the voyage, and on the 22nd of April there was a baby born, of the parents Ole Hansen (46) and Christine Christiansdatter (40). The child was found to be in good health and was christened 3 days after, she was given the name Edda Ag**[missing letters]. The death occurred on the 10th of May, when a baby by the name of Carelius, ½ year old. He died at 1 o'clock in the morning and was buried on the 12th of May. His parents was Arnt Amundsen (26) and Andrine Sivertsdatter (30). The Edda was mastered by Capt. C.E. Andersen, with a crew of 15. Her tonnage was 556 tons. In 1871 the Edda departed from Christiania Apr. 26, and arrived at Quebec June 1. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 3 cabin and 223 steerage passengers. All well at arrival. There were two births on the voyage; twin girls born 20th (29th?) April, daughters of Hans Jacobsen (41) and Marie Hansen (37). Also this year the Edda was mastered by Capt. C.E. Andersen, with a crew of 14. In 1872 the Edda departed from Christiania Apr. 25, and arrived at Quebec May 25. In 1873 she departed from Christiania Apr. 27th. and arrived at Quebec June 4th. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 316 steerage passengers. She was inspected at the quarantine station at Grosse Īle on May 31st. Two passengers had died during the voyage, an old man from dysentery (Iver
Olsen, age 60 on May 12th) and a child from measles (Johan Rakstad, infant on
May 27th). On inspection at the quarantine station the Medical officer found two cases of
varioloid and 36 of measles. All the passengers were landed, and subjected
to the usual process for cleansing and disinfection. The vessel having
been cleansed and the between-decks white-washed and fumigated with
chemical disinfectants, was allowed to proceed, after 5 days quarantine,
taking with her those of her passengers who remained healthy. Four deaths
from measles subsequently occurred amongst the sick from this vessel
detained in the hospital. Master was Captain A. Andersen, with a crew of 16.
