| I am not having much luck locating the later life of Carl Anthonius Olesen born in Kongsberg and Carl Johan Olsen married in Eiker - it's a learning curve for me! |

So then this Carl Johan Olsen can NOT be Charles Wilson of Brooklyn, New York.
At least he has been ruled out - which is important.

About your second post: You are saying the Carl Johan Olsen who married Birthe Marie Larsdr in Eker is a DIFFERNT man from the one below.
Do I correctly understand your meaning? You are keeping us on track, making sure the Carls are "sorted out."
I am loving all this help - and absolutely I could never have done this alone.

I do have trouble with the records so it's a big help that you posted that. Thank you!
"Our" Charles Wilson/Olsen worked on boats and on the shore, loading and unloading boats. I suppose he could have a father who is a silver miner - but I would not expect it. I expected a family living along the ocean coast or in a port town.
I'm not being much help...I am hoping the man I am helping will come soon to the forum! However, it may well be that he also does not know some of the information that might help. Also the job of posting the photo (back of the photo) needs to be done, and so on...
I have still tried searching in different ways in the various search engines but nothing knew to report.

Karl Johan was the name of the King of Norway/Sweden from 1818-1844. He was of French origin, and could not speak the Scandinavian languages. So the Royal household in Stockholm had to speak French. There is a lot of Carl Johan's born in Norway in that period, and it's easy to understand whom they're named after...

I did not know that. That is very interesting!
In a funny way, this fact somehow draws the family in America closer to Norway, even though we have not yet found the Norwegian family - as though a glimmer of Norwegian culture shines on in the life of "Charles Wilson of Brooklyn New York."
When an ancestor is lost - beyond our reach no matter how we (and others) try - then we can at least fill in an idea of the place, the time, the culture of that person. This fits into that framework very well.
